We've been hit hard with spammers over the last few months and they seem to have scoped out vBulletin's registration / image recognition program to the point that it is no longer effective.
To that end, I plan to add a verification challenge for new user registration. This seems to have worked on other forums to drastically reduce spam attacks. I think it's worth a try.
If you plan to refer new members to the site after today and they have problems getting through, please let me know.
