Hokey smokes. Like the Isle of Man only flatter. Is that Irish roadracing?
The people who painted the lines on the road had quite a sense of humor...

I can't believe you found footage of the typical Sunday ride I take with my local buddies. Fantastic.

Absolutely outstanding! The light poles and the underpass had the grim reaper sitting on top of them, that's for sure...

Certainly Ron, that's Irish Road (as opposed to circuit) Racing. Traditionally used as a "warm up" for the Isle of Man TT the North West takes place in mid May. It's a whole different experience to Moto-GP that's for sure. Untill you've sat on a garden wall (having asked the houseowner first obviously) with the sun warming your back and had full-on Factory Superbikes howl past within six feet of you.............................................
I tell you, they suck the froth off your pint as they go by.
BUT, and as with everything there's always a "but", Bob is quite right about the danger of these places. Mistakes are punished severely.
The pilot of the camera bike in the above clip was Irishman Richard Britton. A top class Real Roads Racer, a family man and thoroughly decent bloke. Sadly Richard was killed in a race late in the 2005 season.
Every TT race week has fatalities. Not always the racers themselves, often the crashes involve spectators who of course get to ride the roads when they are re-opened to traffic after the race.
I have been a staunch supporter of Road Racing over the years, arguing that the riders know exactly what they are letting themselves in for (true) and that you can't stop someone doing what they reasonably enjoy doing (also true). Faced with the ever increasing death toll I'm not sure how much longer I can convince myself that these arguments are valid.
Perhaps I'm just getting old!

Si,
One must require a great deal of testicular fortitude to participate in that sort of racing. Just coming so close to the curb (kerb) at those speeds would loosen me up. And the photogs taking pictures at the outside of a turn must be pretty crazy too!

That is the kind of road racing that I like, totaly WFO and top speed for more than a few seconds, real full on road racing.

Incredible!
Sad about Richard Britton. He obviously had some very serious riding skills, as well as the aforementioned testicular fortitude.
Cheers,
Jeff
