Another visually appealing motorbike - 1938 PMZ A 750
The PMZ 750 (Podolsk Machinery Zavod) has been the topmodel of whatever bike has been produced in Russia ever and has only been produced for a period of two years with a number of about 1000 examples made. As far as the German motorbike magazine "Motorrad Classic" has stated in their February 1999 article about this make, no more than 30 have survived in the USSR, all the others have gone lost during WWII, or have been scrapped because of lack of spares. Because of tight USSR regulations those bikes have never been exported outside Russia and have merely been used by the Russian Army and Moscow and St. Petersburg Police. Nowadays the Russian law still forbids that bikes like this can get exported, this all because of their very strict inheritance laws. As history tells, this has been the only Russian bike which was solely of Russian design, but inevetably there are influences of others, like the Indian styled engine and the BMW R11/16 style front-forks and frame.
