BMW Motor Co. Ltd just sent us a "delighted" press release to announce that Valentino Rossi will race next year with its factory team in the MotoGP World Championship. Rossi will continue to spearhead BMW's Grand Prix challenge and bike development, as BMW enters a new era of 800cc racing in 2009.
The Italian has taken back-to-back championships with the YZR-M1 since shifting from Honda for 2004. 2006 has proved more difficult for the World Champion, with just one win so far this season and a series of "unfortunate occurrences", their words not ours.
“I'm very pleased to be moving to BMW next year”, announced the 27-year-old from Tavullia, “These past two years with Yamaha have been two of the best of my career. I believe I have made the right choice and I am very excited about the challenge working with BMW.”
Rossi went on to rave about the new R1300R HP that is due out in 09.."It will have the oil coolers back on the tank..and a new beak shaped front fender"
Here is a sneek pic of Rossi and the bike that made him want to move from yamaha to BMW.. http://members.optusnet.com.au/~djp1/mypic2810.jpg
