It might be helpful to post comparable 2005 model prices (Austrailian money) to see how much they have changed, and if the change is relatively uniform.

Here's a quick and dirty work up of the prices using yesterday's exchange rates. You wouldn't believe what I had to do to get a decent table...(Note modified exchange rates to reflect reality and it looks like reality is gonna be expensive):

Thanks Ron..but just looking at the R1150R...it seems way out for Aussie dollars...they sell here for about $17,500...and it takes about three Aussie dollars to one British pound.

DJ,
Seems the rate I was using was outta whack. I'll rework the table as soon as I get a chance.

table modified to reflect true exchange rate for Austrailia. Sorry, DJ...
I wonder how much skim is added or taken off the MSRP for each country in which a product is sold. Anybody got an idea of how that works?

The chart does make the R look like a fantastic bargain. It makes me wonder....how quickly do BMW bikes depreciate in value? Might as well consider buying a used BMW rather than a fresh one from the dealer floor.

Abhijeet,
My '02 1150R has a Kelly Blue Book value of $7170 retail and $4885 for trade-in.
Pretty much what I would have expected, except for the trade-in is somewhat low....
Yes, a well fettled used bike may make a bunch more sense than buying new.

Ron,
Yep...kinda hurts doesn't it?
I bought my 2003 R at $7400 in July 2005 with the staintune pipe and a couple of minor options. Right now, I'm quite certain that the price of the same bike would be about $700-800 less in 7 short months.
C'est la vie.

Remember the uk prices quoted there will include VAT (17.5% of the actual price)

I can recalc the thing tomorrow and reduce the AUD and US dollars by 17.5% but I'm not sure that will be reflected in the price on the ground. There seems to be some skim factor for each country. Must be one of the dark arts.
Here's the recalc pulling the British VAT out of the final price. Some seem low to me, like the F series:

Does anyone here know how the MSRP is calculated for different countries? Is pricing a fairly rational process or is it as whimsical as I think it may be?

Definitely whimsical...
Cheers!

I've been fiddling around on the "new" BMW site, sort of checking on the MSRP there and whats in the spreadsheet I did (see above). Seems like adding $1000 to $1500 to the chart price gets you into the range of the posted MSRP. Except for the 1150r line which remains in the $10K range...:eusa_clap:
