Wow, what a difference the Staintune makes for the MT-01.

As I have posted many times, the motor is all torque anyway, but the free flowing pipes really smooth out the power delivery between 1500 and 4000 RPM. The throttle response is much more instantanious while the power builds with reduced shaking. I am very pleased.

The sound level is slightly higher, but not so much to make it annoying. The stock pipes had a muffled whiff sound between pulses, but the new exhaust replaces this off-beat whisper with a nice low rumble.

On the power, the noise is lower pitched, but slightly louder.

Appearance is virtually unchanged since the original heat shields are utilized. The only visual indication of a change is the slightly different cones at the exhaust exit. No cop can even notice the change.

Great product, great service and improved performance. What else can a person ask for.

Staintunes have a great rep and the ones I have heard on in line fours have been nice. I will bet the MT sounds fantastic. I know the Two Brothers I put on my FZ1 made the difference between a choir boy vs a stud. Enjoy.

DJ;
That Assie know-how is great. I haven't taken any recent shots of my bike with the Staintune installed, but you'd be hard pressed to notice any difference anyway. The stock covers over the exhaust are still used and the only difference is the cones at the end.

Here is the Staintune cones (from their website)

Bones,
Exhaust is usually the first thing I replace on a new bike. In this case though, the performance difference is striking. I guess it has to do with the torque tendancies of the motor. Moderate hot rodding around town has always been fun, but now results in unintended wheelies. I've never experienced so much gain from a pipe change.

Next is a Power Commander. I know that Yamaha has de-tuned this motor to meet emmissions and noise standards. I think the PC will open her up even more. (What the hell, its only money!).

Cheers,
Jeff

I've had a Staintune on my K1200RS for a year or so. I'm very pleased with the sound and appearance, too bad you have to hide all that stainless.

Jeff, don't tease with a picture like that without showing the rest of the bike. More pics.....please!

Great pics...love the last one.

Is it true that it only has a 13 ltr tank?

Thanks DJ. That's my little buddy Hobson. He's one of the smartest dogs I've ever known.

The MT-01 has a 15 liter tank. Its not much, but I get the same range I got with the Roadster believe it or not. Almost all of my riding is city riding. With both bikes, the fuel warning light comes on at about 160km +/- 10km in city driving. Even with the much larger displacement, the MT-01 gets better fuel economy.

Keep in mind that I don't have a lot of data for non-city riding. I'm sure the MT will require more frequent fill ups out on the open road.

Jeff,
I swear to god....that's a gorgeous bike you've got there...very primal....very cool.

Btw, I have a Staintune on my R too...previous owner swapped it to add the full left case. :D

Thanks Abhijeet;
She is basically stock except the new pipes and the footpegs. I'd like to take credit for the cool factor, but Yamaha did it. The MT-01 is a blast to ride. If you ever get a chance, try one out.

I knew Staintune from my R1150R days. They had a solid reputation and the sound was very nice. I bought this kit knowing that the company makes good products. I wasn't disappointed either. The fit and finish is very good. No cheap rivets or bad welds. A very solid piece of equipment. Even though 90% of the product is hidden by the heat shields, they did a great job making them look good.

Chjeers,
Jeff
