View Full Version : Watch out
Just a note of thanks to the Gods out there. I was on my way home from Brownsville today, weather was fine, freeway was in a construction zone and a pickup with a trailer full of lumber, tin roofing material and don't know what else was in front of me about 2 car length -speed about 40 mph when he hit a rough spot a 2x4 stake about 30" fell off the trailer, bounced once and then tagged my left hand mirror before it struck the car following me right in the middle of the windshield -took it out instantly. The fellow in the truck did not stop -just keep on trucking! Truck and trailer neither had tags. Be careful out there!!!!

Bill -
I hope you rode straight to the store and bought a lottery ticket!
Glad the motorcycle Gods smiled upon you. I am sure your experience also helped get you through the crisis as well.
Ride safe. Thanks for sharing your story - I think this type of story helps all of us with our awareness of road survival issues.

Yikes!
Crap on the road is just about my number one fear. Is your mirror ok?
Glad you are ok Bill.

Wow, Bill...your post didn't say so, but I assume you were on your bike and not in your pickup.
That's when we are reminded in spades of how vulnerable we really are...glad you are OK!
It would make an interesting thread to talk about all the road crap and Buick Bombs we have encountered along the way...

Bill, What the heck, I thought Mexico was supposed to be your great ride adventure. Moose
Moose, this did not happen in Mexico but just outside Harlingen, Texas. I had gone to Matamoros to turn in my Mexico stamp for the bike and was riding home when it happened. By the way I do not own a pickup. The Copper Canyon trip was made in a pickup of a friend. I wanted to scout the area before going on my bike and I am glad I did. The road down to Batopilas was closed for anything but 4 wheel so we did not attempt the drive down the mountain. I plan on going back the first part of the week we go to Big Bend. Does any one with a KLR want to lead the way? It will be a ride of a lifetime.
