Last night at 1815 hrs I found out what happens when a Hyundia Santa Fe rearends a Dodge Quad Cab at 50 MPH( the officers guess).
I was entering the freeway and we have lights at our on ramps to help with the flow. I had the red light and had just released the brake when the light turned green and wham! I got hit....never saw it coming.
Im ok, the truck is not, Its not terminal, it can be fixed, the tailgate and bed are toast, and the bed was pushed into the cab on the right rear corner.
Moby(my trucks name) was towed off.
I'm a little stiff today, neck is ok, I think because I did'nt see it coming I was relaxed. The worst I got was a bruise on my right calf from leg hitting the seat adjuster. Very lucky.
You all be careful out there, had I been on the bike I would have been watching the rearview mirror, and I drive like I'm on the bike. Very sobering.
Gotta go ride the bike today to make sure I can, she is my only transportation for now. I usally ride the bike all the time anyway, only drove the truck to pickup some wood for a project at home.

Glad you are basically O.K. So did the hyundai driver say he (she) didn't see you?

Glad you're o.k.!
So what was the other drivers excuse? One of the many things I need to continue working on is remembering to set myself up for quick get aways at stops. All it takes is some SUV driving gal on her cell phone and you're toast -especially if there is another SUV in front of you. Thanks for the reminder.

Roger,
I'm glad you are as well as you are. Being rear-ended while on the bike is a real phobia of mine. I've been rear-ended about five times (while in my car) and once while on my bike. The guy locked up his brakes and slid into me with the smallest amount of damage that could be done to a bike. If there was any less damage he would of missed me. I've had a number of close calls, some REAL close. I also had a good friend of mine get totally run over when he and his wife were stopped at a light waiting to turn left. She was killed outright, and he spend months in the hospital. He is out of the hospital, but no more riding/driving for him - he's blind.:icon_cry:
I have one of the LED tail light conversions on my bike, the type that flash when you hit the brakes. I also have an additional set of running/stop/directional LED's mounted on the rear. I said I had a phobia; perhaps I'm just paranoid. But you know the old saying, "Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get you."
Keep the shiny side up,

Thanks all....it totalled the other car, the engine was hanging out, remember I was in a 5200 lb truck. My truck got the bumper pushed in the box is toast and it was pushed into the cab, thank God for good old american steel. That's why I ONLY drive full size trucks. I've spent the morning on the phone, so the hassle factor is high. I went out and did some errands on the bike so I'm ok to ride.
The other driver was very apoligetic, she said she just was'nt paying attetion.
I guess not, its a big white truck, hence his name Moby Dick the great white whale, I can say dick right? :037: My sense of humor is still intact. Stuff happens. I just want my truck back, can't take the dirt bikes out without the truck, can't pickup the kids, its a hassle.

Roger,
Glad you're OK, Phoenix traffic is getting worse all the time. I've been here for 26 years now, and never thought it would get this bad.
I was talking to the Service Manager, Jim, at Victory on Thursday. He's got a broken ankle and a few other injuries from his accident on his GS. Seems he was on his way home heading North on Arizona Ave., when a guy on a Suzuki Bandit missed his turn into Town and Country and decided to hang a U-turn. Swung the Suzuki around directly in front of Jim. Jim t-boned him, not even enough time to touch the brakes. He went up and over the Bandit and landed on his back with his foot tucked underneath. I guess the guy on the Suzuki fared considerbly worse.
Like I said, Phoenix traffic sucks. I'm think 1 ton dually for my next truck.

Jeez, it sounds like the other driver must be blessed with air bags. Glad you had so much vehicle between you and the antagonist. Take it easy.
Jamming - trucks can be replaced. You can't. So glad to hear all is well for you at least.
My riding buddies have been giving me the gears ever since I started riding with them a few years ago. What they tend to do is slip into neutral as they come to a stop and sit in neutral until just before the light change. It saves their clutch hands they tell me. But I won't do it. Two reasons. The first might be totally misguided thinking on my part, but why pull up to a stop coasting in neutral with your brakes having to do all the stopping. Why not make some use of engine braking? Second, I prefer to sit in gear in the event I see a problem coming up behind me. Seems to me I can react faster by giving gas and releasing the clutch to move out of harm's way than I could by having to pull in the clutch, shift the gears and then accelerate.
Like Frank I am a little paranoid and keep aware of what is going on 360 degrees around me when moving or sitting still. I just don't have the extra rear lighting. Twould be a worthwhile investment.

You ready for this...8700 bucks of damage. The whole box of the truck has to be replaced, the tailgate, and the rear corners of the cab have to be fixed.
However, the frame is straight! :eusa_clap:
I love my Dodge truck, Took a licking and kept on ticking. I'm gonna have a friend paint a little SUV on the tailgate with an X over it, like they do on fighter planes. Got to find a little humor in it, you know.
