Just in case anyone else has a BMW R1200GS.......
BMW has become boneheaded in some ways, like providing a stock tool kit that might as well be just a bottlecap and a toothpick. Ridiculous.
Last season I was pre thinking some longer trips I might pursue for '06 and wanted to have something that was reasonably compact, but helpful enough that if I got into a pinch, I could so some repairs or have the bike repaired. I make the last statement because the new bikes have a lot of non standard fittings that some shops might not have, like odd size torx wrenches, etc. And why is it that Murphy's law will dictate that the one small socket wrench you need is missing on any given day? OR, if you had to remove the front wheel for a tire change, there is a difficulty with having what amounts to a gigantic hex wrench that would need to be fitted into the front axle that I can't imagine a non BMW shop ever having.
I came upon this site. This is a simply fantastic write up. I printed it out and headed out to Sears and some other hardware stores and put together a modified slightly less extensive version to be taken on any future longer trips. Thought I would pass the info. along, though none here have mentioned having a GS. The same theme could be applied to whatever bike you own.
Hope it helps, someone, somewhere.
