RK chain - easy. Roller Kusatsu

Takasago Chain Co., Ltd.
Takasago Manufacturing Co., Ltd.
formed Nov 1951 (out of the Kusatsu Factory [that made bicycle rims & parts])
The Roller Chain manufacturing Division of Takasago Tekko K.K. was separated into a new related company called Takasago Chain Co., Ltd.
Head Office: 1 Chome, Shimura, Itabashi-Ku, Tokyo
The company started production and sales of bicycle chains.

Any relation to Takasago (Excel) rims?

Scotts Performance is owned/operated by.... Scott (I can't find his last name). They build the best steering damper/stabilizer known to offroad bikes, built in cahoots with Ohlins.


I don't know anything about Gaerne (GAR-nay), other than they make great bicycle shoes & motorcycle footwear.

All of that is dead-on, Collyer... But according to my source the name RK came from Takasago's first bicycle racing chains, which were sold under the round-eye name of R-ace K-ing...

You are on the right track with Scotts, too... Named after the company's founder (and a really good rider and racer in his own right, back in the day....) - Scott Forward
