I am beginning to think about a ride up from Houston, TX., to the Grand Tetons this early summer, then back down UT and AZ.
I would like to follow the Continental Divide where possible. Black top due to the R1150R. The ride would have to start sometime in June to be clear of snow. I like to camp too.
Suggestions and recomendations?

Brian, I have taken that very ride several times, the first on a new Honda CB450, actually started in Kerrville. I'll be glad to give you some hints when I have a little more time.

The Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, etc. are a rockin' ride!
Do you know where that name comes from?
Dave
After the Teton Sioux, or by a Frenchman meaning large teat.

Dean,
I am going to hold you to that!
Darth,
Tell me more? As a transplated 'furner', I am still catching up on Native American history.

There are some fantastic AMA Ride Guides, perhaps one would give you a pretty good overview of the general areas you're interested in. I just recently bought the Ride Guide to America and it has a whole section dedicated to the Rockies.
AMA Ride Guide To America: Favorite Motorcycle Tours In The Usa (Paperback)
by Greg Harrison (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index=books&field-author-exact=Greg%20Harrison&rank=-relevance%2C%2Bavailability%2C-daterank/104-0436866-9909530) (Editor)
This book: Great American Motorcycle Tours
by Gary McKechnie (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index=books&field-author-exact=Gary%20McKechnie&rank=-relevance%2C%2Bavailability%2C-daterank/104-0436866-9909530)
also has a section on the Rockies. More northerly than southerly.
Dress warm at altitude....:)

What does "Grand Tetons" mean?
City version:
"...After the Teton Sioux, or by a Frenchman meaning large teat..."
Country version:
"...Big Tits..."
When you see them you will understand!
Bob is a country boy...

Dean,
I would probably be out about 1 1/2 to 2 weeks. 1st day I usually do about 900 -1000 miles to get out of the flat lands of TX. Thereafter as the days go and depending on what there is to be seen and done. I am anticipating about 4000 miles plus round trip. I like to see the natural and historical America.
Nice pics of your ride up there. Thank you!
Darth,
you mean I have to ride all that way to see a distant pair of what a Frenchman thinks are boobs? Must have had some bad wine that day! I dont have to leave this site to see a fair collection! Chilly up there - the trusty Gerbings will be a part of the kit, the 4season tent and good accessories.
Arkline,
Thanks for the book references.

No, not just a pair! There are a whole gaggle of 'em!
Well worth the trip...
