I picked up my (Silver 2000 R1100RS) bike in Chandler and started my treck home to Texas- first a visit to The Lost Dutchman Gold mine - Superstition Mountains then on down to Globe. Weather was great, roads were fun, then it started getting a bit cold so I holed up in Safford, Az then the Rain, and more Rain. Still in the hotel posting to the site. Lewis is calling with weather infomation.

Dean O you need to organize an AZ ride, your roads are great ! You just keep everything to yourself, don't want anyone else to have any fun!!!

Pictures when I get home.

Bill, we are getting the first badly needed moisture in close to 100 days. Be careful, this Wx will pass in a day or so.

More importantly, how is your new to you bike? You bet, the riding here in Arizona amazing. Ride safe, keep the rubber side down and keep us posted.

Bill's friends,

1/25/06: Spoke to Bill at 4:30 pm (Central) to give him a weather update. He was 5 miles east of El Paso on I-10 headed to Van Horn (100 miles), and will probably overnight there. Still has a little bit of weather between El Paso and Van Horn.

1/26/06: Bill made it to Junction (dry) at 1:30 pm, and was red lining it to San Antonio (125 miles) to out run a severe thunder storm on a collision course with SA. Weather radar appears clear for his shot down to McAllen. He's enjoying his new bike, but thought it was strange that the wind screen didn't turn with the handlebars . . . .

1/26/06: Bill made it around SA (dry) and at 4:30 pm was in Crystal City, 235 miles down US 83 from home. Radar showing dry roads ahead for him.

Rain ?? We had rain?? Not at my house we didn't. I do think I saw a few clouds yesterday. Can't be sure, could just be that my visor was dirty.

I don’t know why I had to find a bike to buy 1300 miles from home but I did. I found a 2000 Silver R1100RS in Chandler, AZ at Victory BMW and the price was right. I flew in and everything checked out so I did the deal, now the ride home. First I am diabetic and had not eaten since 5:00 am so off to Hooters I go, boy do I love their Cuban sandwich. No trip to the Phoenix area would be complete without a little prospecting for the Lost Dutchman Gold Mine. I found the Superstition Mountains and did a bit of riding the roads. I took 60 North East then 70 down to Lordsburg. Once I got to New Mexico I experienced fierce crosswinds – airplanes have a crosswind component that should not be exceeded-bikes are a little like airplanes-I exceeded both bike and rider’s crosswind component! Boy what Winds…..Once I got on I-10 things got better-same wind just a head wind. I arrived at the roadside overlook just west of Los Cruces I saw a giant statue of Marty Hill – Mexicans call him Pisano (Roadrunner) picture attached.

Spent the night in Van Horn – then a 12 hour ride to McAllen. I stuck to I-10 to Junction then south on 83 through Leakey, Uvalde and Laredo. Lewis Jordan was my weather controller advising me of rain. He kept me dry! Thanks Lewis!
