Found in a pull-off on Rt.141 in Western Colorado - if you don't know rt. 141, you should:)

At first I thought it was...then I thought it wasn't...now I think it *probably* is, but with some non-stock stuff...a Maico 501.
Just a half guess, no time to look it up.
I'd like to ride some of the trails this ol' boy has seen!

Actually,

It appears more as a square-barrel 400 than a 501.

Notice the larger gap between the cylinder and head than on the 501, and the lack of the head steady the 501 carried.

501's were really pretty rare, too, and none I knew of were allowed to get into the condition of the "Mystery Bike".

Just my two marks...

The frame is different too Allan. look at the triange from the seat to the swingarm.
