Board looks just great.

Just wondering, will we have member #'s by our names, & can we dump the "junior" membership thing?:p

I recommend (seriously) we are all assigned "Member No. 1"...even members who join later.

I like the "all number 1" idea - it's great!

Abnijeet - can you just immediately dump "junior" from "junior member" - it's giving me a complex!

Hey, Bob...

I kind of like being called "Junior". Makes me feel younger than my old bones are.

And Dave, I have been futzing about with a "Peckerhead" avatar, as you can see. I was actually doing it for you, as if you want it I will gladly give it to you seeing as you are the original "Peckerhead" here... I have it just about polished and buffed out. Let me know if you want it.

Abhijeet,

A couple of things...

1.) I notice that my log-in times out pretty quickly if I don't have some activity for a bit. Any way to lengthen that time-out limit so I don't have to keep logging in every few minutes of inactivity?

2.) What is the URL for where we can look at the various possible color schemes again?

3.) What about some more eimticons? The selection here is pretty thin compared to the old board, and I just love emoticons! :D

4.) I notice in our profile areas there really isn't any fields (or I haven't found the right place...) for full names, etc. Can we add more possible info for viewing people's profiles if they choose to submit it?

5.) Is there any way ot turn the spell checker on automatic?

6.) Can someone give me a quick primer on the signature fields, etc. I haven't been able to make that work right yet...

Thanks!

One other thing, Abhijeet...

Have you gotten any artwork, etc. to replace the big "vBulletin" logo at the top of the forum pages?

Thanks!

Question, how do I post a pic in my avatiar, from either Smugmug or from "my pictures" in my computer. I can't seem to make it work. If you could, make the explination as if you are talking to a dummy.

Thanks

Abhijeet,

Nice to meet you this past weekend for lunch.

Can we clean up the text when you bookmark the site, maybe just say Mororcyclist Cafe"?

Allan,
Let me try to answer some of your questions/comments.

Re: 1
Hmm...I'll look at it. Do you have a preference as to the timeout? I haven't tried this but if you check "remember me", the system should not log you out. I'm probably blowing hot air but could you please try that and let me know?

Re: 2
Hmmm...Which one? I had posted a few links on the MSN board which pertained to changing colour schemes and previewing a board style....and the other one was a vBulletin index that showed the styles already implemented.

Re: 3
Extra Emoticons, Avatars will be arriving soon. They are installable packages. I'm trying to stagger this a little slowly to be sure that the board does not break if I install something and I can back stuff out. :)

Re: 4
Profiles? Yes. I'll take a look at it tonight. Do people have a preference as to what fields their profiles should display?

Re: 5
The spellchecker package that I have installed, is a server based spellchecker. It's "On-demand" and will not auto-check. Server based spellchecking places some load on the server. We'll have to monitor it.

Thanks, Abhijeet.

Point by point...

1.) Back on the old board I could log in once and it never timed out, and I didn't use the "remember me" or auto-log-on. I really don't want to use the "remember me" as that means my damn password is stored on another server somewhere and I am ultra-paranoid about that. I would prefer a long time-out, in the hours range for a board, than the ten minutes or so we have right now.

2.) Color - I will look back at the MSN board when I have a minute. The one I was referring to was a link you posted that had a menu of various complete clolor schemes and layouts.

3.) Thanks, and I understand your caution and appreciate it.

4.) I thought the old board's profile section was pretty good. You could put name, address, etc. in it if you wanted to, or just whatever you wished.

5.) Understand, and if you want my vote... If the spellchecker takes too much bandwidth or overhead I would be happy to drop it. I don't want us to be exceeding bandwidth or causing overhead slowdowns as I prefer a fast, fast, fast interface, etc.

Thanks, Abhijeet! You are doing a terrifci job!

I don't like the format that our quotes are presented in on this board - it sort of looks like it is an "inset" and it isn't really distinctive - are there some options???

Hi Abhijeet - sure I can! Take a look at the quote above - rather than having a border or a contrasting color, it is the way it is.... does that make sense?

Thanks! Bob

Bob,
I take it that you would not prefer the quoted text to be in a sunken box. Am I correct? If yes, I'll take a look to see if we can change it.

I just dont think the sunken box is very distinctive....

Promethean

Bob,
I can change the text but what you're essentially seeing is a hierarchy structure of titles.

A board that I saw some time back has this implemented in a military format

e.g.

General
Colonel
Major
Captain
Lieutenant
Sergeant
Corporal
Private

People get promoted by the reputation points they gain (which other users bestow upon them).

Do we want to do something this or just eliminate the promotion and go with Member?

Let me know...

-Abhijeet

"General

Please, no. Been there, done that, don't want to be ranked that way ever again. No, really! Not again!

Okay, Abhijeet...

Noticed some new quirks about the board.

1.) Posters are limited to four "images" per post, and this includes emoticons/smilies. Why is that?

2.) I can't get the edit feature for a post to work. Whenever I go to edit a post, make the changes, and hit send it goes to a page like I am trying to reply to the message... With no editing being allowed. What's up with that?

BTW, I am with Ron... Last thing I want is a military hierarchy around here. How about these titles:

1.) Founder or Founding Member - for those of us in it from the beginning
2.) Full Member - For fully paid members
3.) Registered User - For registered users that have not paid

Or...

1.) Peckerhead, or scallawag, or one of the other monikers previously mentioned for the founding members, with the member choosing the one he prefers
2.) Member, with number - for those paid members joining after the founding members
3.) Rookie - for registered users that have not become paying members yet.

Just some suggestions...

Actually, I rather like the idea of there being some form of distinction between the "founders" and the "members".
Does that make me elitist in some way?
Dunno, but I feel we have been presented with a healthy, bouncing, baby forum - but the "labour pains" I could've done without!

Allan,
Let's see

Re: 1
I believe there is a configurable limit on the number of images that a user can post. This is a default setting. I have not changed it yet.

Re: 2
AFAIK, Edits are functional. I'll test this. Could you tell me which section you tried it in? I might have cloned the sections with a default setting somewhere.

The military hierarchy was an example. I have no feelings about this either way. :)

I edited a post in that same thread /same forum without issues. I'm not trying to be a pest but could you please try that again and let me know if you still encounter problems?

A step by step would help :)

That's a GIF image and not plaintext. I could replace it with something, if one of the artistic members could make a temporary one up.

Allan,
Re: 1
I can lengthen the timeout which is set to a default of 15 min. This is a known vBulletin issue. Balancing convenience with performance is all this boils down to.

Re: 3
If you have a preference or can find emoticons that you would like....just point me toward the link...and I'll install them.

Re: 4
I can add them if we know the titles of the fields that we would like to see. :)

Allan,
I've replied in another post to this point. Just wanted to point out, the remember me option creates a cookie on your local disk (not the server) which contains your encrypted logon information and preferences.

I'll have 2 concept drawings of front page art tomorrow.
We're prepping for national sales mtg. next week (whoopee...) and everyone is running behind. Robert promised them tomorrow for sure. I'll scan them and post them as soon as I can. Then we can see what changes we want or if we even like them.

Allan -
Sure, I'd appreciate a P'Head avitar. I have a crappy one up now and have given up on Photoshopping the one I really wanted. I'll get help at work on that one. I'd like to have several favs and rotate them from time to time.

Thanks!

I think there should be distinction too, here's what I'd do:

Effin' Member (Founding Member)
Member No. 1 (Paid member)
Esteemed Guest (Non-registered visitor)

Let's not take this - our ourselves - too seriously.
I saw the consecutive number thing become a *real* bone of contention in one of my clubs. All 3 of the founders wanted to be Member No. 1.

Besides , go back and read the posts on here and see what our "nature" really is. Totally non-serious overall except where innapropriate. A very "clubby" look & feel...and atmosphere.

I'd like to keep it that way, and humorous, irreverant, friendly "titles" seems a good place to start.

Dallara

But Dave...

I want to be "Member # 21"... Or maybe "Member # 98"... Or maybe "Member # 549"...

Or maybe, better yet... "Member # Doug" or "Member # Banned Everywhere Else"...

Cheers!

Allan (Dallara)
