Promethean,
Hey, if I could ride like THAT doctor, I would give up my current day job. I do think we can all agree that he has some real surgical skill, though.

If Valentino Rossi isn't the best of all time, then he is damn close...

But can you imagine a MotoGP/500cc grid that looked something like this, with all of them on equal machinery and in their prime...

Valentino Rossi
Mick Doohan
Kevin Schwantz
Wayne Rainey
Eddie Lawson
Wayne Gardner
Freddie Spencer
Kenny Roberts, Sr.
Franco Uncini
Alex Criville
Marco Lucchinelli
Barry Sheene
Giacomo Agostini
Phil Read
Mike Hailwood
John Surtees
Geoff Duke
Umberto Masetti
Leslie Graham

and maybe even throw in Marco Melandri, Sete Gibernau (so we could watch him choke... :omg: ), John Kocinski, Randy Mamola, Loris Capirossi, Jim Redman, Gary Hocking, Graeme Crosby, Jarno Saarinen, Kork Ballington, and Daijiro Kato for good measure...

Be one hell of a race, or better yet, one hell of a race season!

Geez... The mind boggles!

Cheers!

still got a little leftover from last year (the #s on his helmet), but I'm sure this is just his "winter" testing helmet

Do we have any relatively new riders on here? I sure hope so, we need the balance and it's great to share the bazillion years of experience shared by our graybeards!

Here is a great street riding tip - Look at the closeups of the riders in the corners. Where are they looking?
They are actually looking past the corner and virtually as far as they can see down track, using their peripheral vision to track other riders, junk on the track, etc.
The truism says "you go where you're looking". Many street riders, even ones who know better, focus on the road very close in front of the bike, leaving too little time to react to obstacles and "situations" far out in front. Worse is focusing your eyes on that pothole 20ft ahead rather than looking at the easy way around it...SMACK!
Or the Buick in the next lane...certainly don't ignore it, but don't "look" at it either, you will often find yourself drifting in the direction you are looking.

You can actually exercise your all-important peripheral vision. One way is to watch a TV program without ever actually "looking" at the screen. Just keep scanning around it, venturing further out with your scanning distance. You'll be amazed and how little, if any, you will miss.

I always enjoy talking with guys who are relatively new to riding as their enthusiasm is always so strong.
*Very* new guys are fun because they remind you what a thrill it was when you got the first bike and started riding.
But you know what? You never really get over that. After riding for nearly 49 years and racing about 10, I still wake up excited when I'm going riding that day...even if it's just the short 7 miles to work.
The best is yet to come my friend!

I echo completely what Bro Dave said.. This morning I am going squid hunting on my way to the Bear Wallow in Alpine and I am just as excited as the day I did the test riding for BMW in Germany............on their first model..............back in ....................1923.
