Carl Fogarty is one of the most famous names in motorcycle racing and a legend in the UK because of his World Superbike career..well he's just done big LWR type ride.

He and his beautiful wife Michaela have just done a ride across New Zealand for a TV series and DVD and will be released in October.

Carl said there was only one choice of bike..the all conquering BMW GS....he said by the end of the trip they were really sad to see the BMW's go.

I was never a Foggy fan..even when he was winning on his Ducati and while managing the Foggy-Petronas team..I thought he was a real smart-ass..and very arogent...this DVD might be fun to watch..if not just to see his wife..and of coarse the GS's.

Lord of the Rings fans know what a beautiful place NZ is..the scenery should be spectacular...btw..his first choice was to ride Route 66..I'm glad they did NZ.

I bought one of his books and it was a quick if not deep read. He does indeed seem to be full of himself, but that may just be his competitive side. Thanks for the heads-up on the DVD. I'm always looking to extend the collection so that I can watch something that makes sense to me. Otherwise, my daughter has full control of the screen and she's into some pretty strange films....French in french for God's sake...

a close friend took his new 1200 GS to Copper Canyon last month? In a well experienced group of 9, eight crashed on the ruinous goat paths they encountered, and Doc, on the 1200, destroyed both wheels, both plastic side panels, and both accordion-like expandable luggage bags. Damned fine dirt bike, that. Really crashes well. I recall the blokes crying in their helmets while filming Long Way Round, broken frames and all.
For me, my GS is about the finest road bike I've ever ridden, but I just couldn't bring myself to destroy a 'twenty large' machine on that seventy mile gnarly downhill goatpath (or its like) that leads from Creel to Batopilas, and back out again. The only guy who didn't crash was on an 1150 GS.
You should see the front rims on BOTH KTM Adventures, but they still hold air. Impressive.
