Hmmmmm, I hope this is NOT anything close to what a new R1200R will look like  . I want it to remain a standard bike, perhaps even more so than now. I love its go anywhere do anything nature. Besides the new motor, what I would like to see most is a one piece seat and a little more room for two-up. Also, better lighting, better wind protection, a more upright seating position, a more accessible battery....well, you get the picture. Seems to me an R1200R like this would'nt appeal to most of us current R1150R owners. I've been wrong before though.

It is showing standard bars though.
That seat looks just like the new S doesn't it?
I'll miss the round headlight if it goes. May need to keep my RR longer after all.
Funny you should post this pic today DJ...just earlier today I had made up my mind...and have so much faith in BMW...that I am going to buy the R1200R. Decision made. That's it. Done deal. Just a matter of waiting till it comes out.
Now I usually don't make decisions like this, and am quite cautious about most things by nature, but in this case...there is no doubt. I will have one. Immediately.
Btw, I like it. Keep it naked. Don't need a passenger seat (wife won't ride with me). Looks a bit meaner. Love the standard bars. And most important of all...MORE POWER.
It is what is should be...a much better version of what we have.
And DJ...you're amazing...how do you find this stuff? I have been looking for something like this every day on the R1200R...but never seem to find it. Come-on...tell us your secrets...
And Dean...when oh when will this beauty be available for pickup at SJ BMW? (Is the roomer true that you will be trading your ST for an R1200R?)

Ed K........Interestingly enough, Europe and what I call the Islands, UK, Australia and New Zealand have historically received both information and new models several months ahead of the US.
I presume, strictly my oppinion, that it has to do with two things.....1) Dealing with the specific US regs and 2) Product liaility since we have become such a litigious society.
Likewise, and Idon't know why we also seem to mis some of the new intro's that would be exciting in our market but the OEM decideds not to market in the US......

Crap!
Just when I'd pretty much settled on an ST, along comes an R1200Monster.
I guess nothing is settled 'til you plunks your money down.
Looks interesting. I'm keeping an open mind at this point.

DJ, Thanks for the update, I can't seem to make up my mind if I like or not!!
The current "R" took a little "design flak" when it was introducted also, so I will have to wait and see more. But like many others, I have really been "anxiously waiting" to see something, Thanks, Den

Don't get too wound up about that pic - back in 2000 the first drawings of the R1150R were pretty radical compared to the end result. Obviously, a huge step away from the R1100R, but not so far into K1200R- or R1200S-land. Remember, this will be the "entry level" Boxer, so they won't go too far in any direction (styling-wise) away from the "standard naked motorcycle".

DJ,
Thanks for the post, how you and Allan (Dallara) find all of this "stuff" is beyond me; but keep it up.:)
Being that the image is still a sketch, I suspect it is similar to what other manufacturers do: release different versions of design sketches to see what the “press” is. Many of these are released to toy model companies for exactly the same reason. One example was both the New Beetle and the Beetle Convertible from Volkswagen. I recall seeing these models in toy stores over a year before either was released.
I have reasonable confidence in BMW to believe they will come out with a model, which most people find good looking. Notice I said most, but not all.
All I really want from them in a new R bike is:
Less weight.
More power.
More headlight and tail/stop light.
ABS.*
Most importantly, I would like to be able to reach the stinking ground.
Frank
* Not that it would stop me from buying a new R bike, but I really would like for them to make the linked, power assisted brakes an option. If that is not possible, at least make the power assist an option.

Looks like my R1100R will be with me for awhile longer. I would really miss the old school headlight. Thank God for non-integrated ABS, too.

If that's truly the new "R", then I'm in the queue! But I can't believe BM'd be that courageous. Although I own one, the Rockster fell flat on its face [commercially] and I can't believe that they'd do it again so soon.
However, I do hope the are that brave, 'cause that is a sweet bike and I want one - NOW!

I'll be in the que right behind you...I hope it looks just like that also..if you look at all the other naked styled street bikes out there..they're all going this way...besides...don't BMW want to shake off that old, bald fat man's bike image that it still has now..the K1200R has started the ball rolling.
