I'm getting my ass handed to me in JoMomma - moral and other support is strongly solicited.....

Bob,
It looks to me as if you asked for the ass-handing by purposely putting down something rather than praise the thing you have.
But, you made a nice choice in rides. Can I drive it?
Cheers,
Jeff

Jeff - Of course you are correct. Good judgement has never been my strong suit - that's why I like you guys so much.
Come on out for a test drive any old time!

Ahhhh - talking about cars (especially a POR-sha) on the ADV site will bring out the beast in almost everyone. Find a way to bail - you're arguing about a virtual "ABS" situation there. My 540iT sport would smoke your SUV down any twisty segment, but I've only got 300hp. But, that's besides the point. It's hard to imagine a 950 Adventure rider that can really ride, also owns a 'vette. Oh well, there's no accounting for taste. Cars are like women, everyone has there own little (or big) indiscretions.
I've heard cars desribed like this, and this may help:
Chevy/Buick/Pontiac: "I don't know anything about cars or quality, but I like 'Deep Space 9' and my dad had a pontiac."
Cadillac: "if it's heavy, and expensive, and insulates me from the real world, I gotta have it."
BMW: a single middle-finger salute to society - "I'm important, I drive a BEEMER!"
Porsche: a double middle-finger salute to society - "you don't 'get' Porsche, but I do!"
Honda: "it's a car, it's inexpensive/efficient - whatever."
Hyundai: "I like throwing worthless stuff away every 3 years."
I've owned 17 BMW cars (BIMMERS, goddammit!! - BEEMERS are MOTORCYCLES - uh, was that out loud?). Not that I care or anything. Dallara made me do it.
1 Honda (great, but uninspiring & boring), a couple of Explorers (right up there with Hyundais), and a nice ML320 for the wife.
My bro is the Porschephile, so I 'get it', but I'd rather go 2 wheeling. Most (if not ALL) Porsche "people" are huge car nerds.
You have to ask yourself this question: are you a car (or motorcycle) "guy", or just a guy who's enthusiastic about cars (motorcycles)? There's a HUGE difference. Just how deep into the Nerd Forest are you?

And that Bob, is why we DO get along so well!
Never been mine either.
I'll head over and defend you ad JoMomma.

I'm with Si on the topic of cars. Anything with more than two wheels is automatically suspect. May be why I've never owned anything with four wheels that wasn't blatantly cheap and utilitarian. I don't think pride of ownership goes with a Hyundai Accent...but the wife is way more perticularish when it comes to her car.
Nobody mentioned Volvos, the yuppie scourge vehicle of the PacNW. What's up with that...

Now that Volvos are Fords, they are right out of the equation.
Hey - my wife has a 4-year-old purple PT Cruiser with a 2.4 liter engine and pushing 60K miles - she loves it! She is making me trailer it out here so she can proudly drive her "little eggplant" (sounds better when she says it in Russina - baklazhianchik) around the nation's capital!

Aw, hell Bob, Ford has its fingers in a bunch of what used to be mighty fine auto companies:
Volvo
Jaguar,
Mazda,
Land Rover,
and
Aston Martin
Not to mention your Lincolns and your Mercuries...
I bet that Ian Fleming is rolling in his grave...

It's not a bad thing. And they both have 17s.
I sold my e34 M5 (176k on the clock) and "settled" for the 540. Too bad no 6spds in a Touring car. It's still just a car. But, it carries all my stuff.

Well Bob,
I own a two wheeled BMW and a four wheeled BMW. But our Viper stomps all over Porsches at the track. Afraid you're on you own here.

Yes - but imagine what my Cayenne S would do to a Chrysler minivan on a race track!

///M6, 5 liter V10, 500hp, 7spd SMG, you know the drill.....

Collyer,
Hate to break the news, the Viper Competition Coupe has ABS. Although if we want to run in the SCCA World Challenge Series next year, we have to have it removed. That's going to be expensive.
We ran at Buttonwillow near Bakersfield last weekend. Here's a link to the track records there:
http://socal.drivenasa.com/index.php?categoryid=14&p2_articleid=12
We are in the VVCX class, and posted a 1:57:3 running configuration #1 CCW (counterclockwise). There were a couple of GT3s there. They hung for a couple of laps but by the end of the race, we had a 30 second lead on them.
The M5 would not be a challenge. The Comp Coupe is a factory built race car (not street legal). It weighs 3200 lbs, makes close to 600 hp, with close to 600 ft. lb. tq. The only thing that beat us this weekend was an 800 lb. track car running a modified R1 engine. We pulled him on the start (torque always gets to turn one first) and held him behind us for three laps. But, once he got by, he was gone. No amount of power was going to throw our 3200 lb. car around that track in 104 degree temps at the rate that little sucker was going.

I had a two wheeled BMW (recently sold) and have a new E90 330i 6speed. I think the Corvette comment got you in trouble Bob.
If you guys really want to talk cars look here: www.carmudgeons.com It is the car version of the 'cafe. Most of the residents have owned or do own BMW's, and most all of them are really top notch car guys.

Yeah - and not one of those cheesedicks has a 'vette, as far as I can tell.
And the only other guy over there who admitted to driving a Cayenne loved it.
Anyway - I have the coolest GS going, so there.......:074:

Oops -
Sorry about the mini-van bashing, please don't take it personally. They are great for having illicit sex in the back of. As far back as I can remember, anyway.
Check Eaglerider for H-D rentals. I subscribed to their site and they keep sending me Summer rental discount rates.

Man, I can never keep up with all of it. Watches, bicycles, motorcycles, music, hockey, pr0n, cars, audio gear, computers, HDTV, Dakar Rally, Tour de France, MotoGP, FAMILY, friends, travel, where does it all end?
To each his/her own kingdom.
It is better to want what you have, than to want what you do not.
