Yes it's a nasty one..real nasty...first corner.....watch for the two red bikes coming together about mid field...and wham!!!..half the field down like domino's.

Many big names out...doctors,ambulances even helicopters everywhere to get the injured rides to hospital...all riders ok..but nasty injuries.

So if you haven't seen the race yet..don't miss the start..it's a good one and you won't believe *$#@%$#@*..(self edete)..I don't want to give anything away.

DJ, I read your email and panicked. But a quick check of the schedule shows that the race won't be on for a couple of more hours! I'll be watching! Thanks.

Here's the latest on the injured lads from the MotoGP today:

A horrific first turn pile-up saw Sete flipped over the handlebars when he caught his brake lever on his team mate Loris Capirossi's Ducati. That set off a chain reaction that put six bikes in the trap and three riders in hospital. While the rest of the field was assembling for the restart, Sete was put in an ambulance and sent to Barcelona. It hit a truck on the motorway. If his collarbone wasn't properly broken before the traffic accident it was afterwards. Capirossi, who looked to be unconscious in the sandtrap, went to hospital in a helicopter but scans showed none of the suspected internal bleeding. The other victim was Marco Melandri. He was caught up with at least two bikes and was unconscious for a long time. The first diagnosis is concussion, whiplash injuries to his neck, and a dislocated collarbone. If that's all he got, he's a lucky man.

What will Ducati do for the two GPs coming up over the next two weekends?

And what the H-E-double hockeysticks were they thinking when they edited OUT KR Jr's comments on the race today???? Speed Channel, can't watch MotoGp w/o 'em, can't stand their programming (or sound & picture quality, for that matter).

Another tough break for Stoner. He's got a lot of potential...if he could just ease up a little and stay consistent for the whole race.

I've watched that crash about twenty times now...ugly isn't it.

While hard on the brakes Sete was very close to the back of Loris and a bit to the inside of him when Loris's bike did the little tail wiggle like they often do under hard braking..this little wiggle bumped Sete's bike and squeezed Sete's front brake on and almost threw Sete into orbit..gees what a launch..and what a way to go..straight over the bars like that..poor guy.

Sete's ambulance hitting a truck on the motorway..sheesh..what bad luck is that.

The rest is history..did you see Danny get a push and re start his bike..give it some gas and then get spat off..or did they edit most of that between the restart stuff out.

What part of Kenny's speech did they cut out..the wishing his Dad happy Fathers Day bit..or what?

Casey,Casey,Casey...and after two great starts...I'm sure he learned alot for that..trying to go with Rossi is a big ask of himself...he should have just settled down..a podium was his for sure..what a bugger.

How good was Rossi's sideways smoky on the last lap...:eusa_clap:

Damn you DJ (and you other GP fans)

I've never been a fan of racing, but over the last two weekends I've watched a number of AMA and 1.5 MotoGP races...

...And I really like it. :028:

Speed Channel showed none of it.

Speed Channel showed none of it. After Nicky acknowledged Rossi "playing" with him, they rolled credits. MotoGP gets 1hr of coverage per race, and we never see the 125 or 250s on the same day (if ever). Bummer.

Inspiring enough for me to go out and skid my Duke II around this afternoon in 95 degree heat!!!

What an incredible mess this one turned out to be. Catalunya must be Spanish for "I curse you, one and all". Not like the last two races where there was some seriously contentious riding. Not that seeing Rossi pull a Rossi on Hayden was all that boring, but criminy, the field got whittled down pretty rapidly. First the big chain-reaction crash at the start and then the slow attrition, one by one, riders washing out the front and skidding into the gravel. At the end, only eleven riders of the original field got across the line. Amazing.

As things settled down after the final start, the best racing was for the third spot on the podium. That the junior Roberts wasn't even shown on American television after the race only speaks to the craven urge to garner more advertising revenues. And push on to the AMA races, which, while entertaining, do not, I repeat, do not have the weight of MotoGP, even if Jake pushed Mladin and Spies off the podium.

Who will Ducati pull in to sit for them until Gibernau is ready to step in again? Olivier Jacques has done well in the past, but I wouldn't hazard a guess. Unless some WSBK riders get the call mid-season. I suppose Biaggi is available...

The Suzukis are starting to look more and more like contenders. Hopkins is looking steadier than ever and Vermeulen (Aussie, Aussie, Aussie) managed to stay with the leaders. Stoner wants to win, a lot. He may need to learn to relax and pick his moves. And Nicky better watch out, 'cause he's only twenty slim points ahead of the Doctor...

What happened to Casey Stoner? My kids were making noise in the other room, I went to investigate, came back & no Casey!

Be nice if speed channel gave motoGP at least 1.5 or 2 hours, some background stuff, some highlights. Geez, its about a million times more entertaining than Formula 1.

To bad about Sete. Its the curse. Can't really be his fault the ambulance crashes.

Pretty cool that 4 of the first 5 riders at one point were americans. Of course everyone else had crashed out. Hope Milandri & Capriossi are ok & will make the next race.

What happened to Casey Stoner?

Almost mid race Rossi caught and passed Casey and Casey tried to go with Rossie and lost the front end on one of those awkward off camber'ish right handers..once the bike went down the back end slid around..just a gentle slide into the gravel but couldn't re start..he should have just let Rossi go.

We get total live coverage...usually starts about 7pm and finishes about 11pm...we get the camera guy walking through the pits filming the guys getting ready...all the pit lane action...plenty of up-skirt shots..gees those umbrella girls are hot....plus all the cool down lap when you get to see all the best wheelies and showing off.

It's times like re starts that you see interesting stuff that the delayed telly casts cut out.

Stoner has the talent to stick with Rossi and Hayden. What he doesn't have is the patience, yet, to stalk the rider just ahead of him and pounce at the most opportune moment. He's gonna be a star, of that I have no doubt. Just needs a little seasoning. Rossi is not only a great, great rider, but he's crafty, psyches the competition, and cuts just so when his scalpel is out. Doctor, indeed.

However.....

This just in from Ducati Corse:

CAPIROSSI RETURNS HOME TO PREPARE FOR ASSEN - GIBERNAU TO UNDERGO COLLARBONE OPERATION TOMORROW, WILL MISS DUTCH TT

The latest updates on the condition of Loris Capirossi and Sete Gibernau following yesterday's horrific first corner crash at the Circuit de Catalunya have brought a sigh of relief to the MotoGP world. Luckily the consequences are not as serious as first thought, but they will have a partial effect on the Ducati Marlboro Team's participation in the Dutch TT race on Saturday.

Capirossi will take part in the next round of the MotoGP World Championship, while Gibernau will still be recovering following an operation to his collarbone.

Loris left Catalunya General Hospital in Barcelona today after remaining overnight for observation and has returned to Monte Carlo. Medical checks confirmed that the Italian rider can take part in the next round of the championship.

Sete Gibernau's condition is more complicated. The Spanish rider today underwent a further brain scan to rule out any possible complications for the operation to fix the minor fracture to his left collarbone, scheduled for late tomorrow morning. Surgeons will replace a plate inserted following an earlier accident with a larger plate. Only after this operation will it be possible to confirm when Gibernau can race again, but he will certainly miss the next round in the Netherlands.

Also, from Dr. Costa: ( http://www.clinicamobile.com/ )

GP Doctor Claudio Costa has posted this update on the Clinica Mobile web site regarding the conditon of the riders injured in yesterday's MotoGP crash .

This morning, Loris Capirossi left the Catalunya General Hospital with a smile on his lips, despite still suffering pains to his chest and abdomen and with bruises all over his body after the battle that he had to fight the day before, at the MotoGP race start.

That smile symbolically lights up the road that goes from Barcelona to Assen: on the Dutch circuit surround by green fields, Capirossi will ride his Desmosedici again in just a few days, and will once again be chasing his dreams.

Marco Melandri is still hospitalised in the same clinic, in a room in the Intensive Care department. The early diagnosis of head injury was fortunately modified to concussion after the hospital scans: concussion means no damage to the brain, just amnesia.

Marco could not remember anything after the accident. His memory is coming back now, although he can only remember what happened until just before the start of that fateful race. His left clavicle dislocation is less serious than we had first thought; his arm muscular stretching is luckily only mild. Marco is still suffering a lot of pain in his neck region, after rebelling against the threat of paralysis. The rider is well treated by the Spanish doctors, gathered around his bed like priests around the altar where Marco is celebrating his own resurrection.

Yesterday, the gods that had allowed a terrible accident to happen had also foreseen that the 3 riders would be able to use the resources hidden in the hearts of all human beings. Perhaps, the gods are not entirely malevolent. And they always spare a look from above for motorcyclists, who love to play chess against risk, danger and death, and during this troubling game, even manage to smile to the lady in black.

MotoGP has an official website. If you are willing to fork over $$, you can have complete coverage of practice sessions, races, interviews, etc. and watch them as many times as you like. Great coverage, too. British commentator (whose name I forget). I love this guy even though he yells the same sayings all the time, like "he his riding the wheels on that bike!" or "He is ABSOLUTELY FLYING!"

Quite convenient. I usually watch the race with my son in front of the computer on a weeknight or Sunday night at our convenience.

CAPIROSSI HEADS TO ASSEN FOR DUTCH TT RACE, GIBERNAU RECOVERS IN BARCELONA. ALEX HOFMANN TO REPLACE THE CATALAN RIDER :

Sete Gibernau underwent an operation to fix the fracture in his left collarbone today. The Spanish rider now needs a period of recovery and he will be replaced by Alex Hofmann at the Dutch TT. Loris Capirossi, undergoing physiotherapy to get back in shape as soon as possible, is already on his way to Assen.

Sete underwent surgery at Dexeus Hospital in Barcelona, where Dr Xavier Mir and Dr Ignacio Ginebrera replaced the metal plate already present in his collarbone from a previous incident with a new one in titanium. Dr Mir declared that a recovery period of 3-5 weeks will be necessary before the Spanish rider can return to the track.

"The operation went well", declared Dr Mir. "We removed the plate covering the old injury to Sete Gibernau's left collarbone and repaired the new fracture by applying a new titanium plate. The rider will now have to wait between 3 to 5 weeks before being able to race again".

Thanks to the Pramac d'Antin MotoGP Team and its sponsors, Luis d'Antin, Paolo Campitoti and Alex Hofmann, the Italian team will however be in a position to race both its Desmosedici GP6 machines at the imminent race in the Netherlands, despite the short period of time between Barcelona and Assen. For the Dutch TT, Sete Gibernau will be replaced by the German rider.

Loris Capirossi (2nd place in World Championship with 99 points).

After being kept in overnight for observation on Sunday at Catalunya General Hospital, Loris returned to Monte Carlo with his physiotherapist Roberto Brusi. Both men immediately got down to work with a massage therapy aimed at eliminating as quickly as possible the effects of the bruising Capirossi received during the horrific first-corner incident at Barcelona. The gutsy Italian rider is now on his way to Assen for the Dutch TT race.

"That was a big crash but luckily I got off quite lightly. I received a nasty blow to the chest, which is still bothering me. My physiotherapist Roberto has been with me all the time and we immediately began to work on rehab, with a series of massages to help the bruising go down. I'd like to thank the Clinica Mobile and Dr Costa, whose assistance as always has been absolutely priceless. I'm not yet 100% fit but the important thing is to get back on the bike as soon as possible and see how it goes: I'm going to Assen with even more fighting spirit than usual!"

Livio Suppo (Ducati MotoGP project leader).

"I am relieved to see that the consequences of last Sunday's crash are being resolved relatively easily. Loris is undergoing rehabilitation and is now on the way to the Netherlands in his usual determined frame of mind. Sete has just come out of the operating room and the doctors confirmed that the operation was successful. We are very sorry that he has to miss the next two GPs, but it could have been worse so we must breathe a sigh of relief and hope that Sete completely recovers as soon as possible. I would like to thank Alex Hofmann, Luis D'Antin, Paolo Campitoti, all the Pramac D'Antin MotoGP Team and their sponsors for the availability they have shown towards us. Although the Assen race comes just 6 days after the incident at Barcelona, we will now be in a position to line up with both of our bikes".
