A lot has happened since I fled North America to discover China. My eldest daughter is graduating high school this June. She had her prom on June 3 and I missed seeing her off, but she looked great in the pics I received. She won the "Best Dressed" award that night.

But more importantly to me, she has been accepted into every University she applied for (seven in total). I am so happy for her that she has a choice in what she wants to study and do with her life. Although she is 18, she is really just starting her independent life. To be able to have such choice in where she goes to study and what she studies is a superb opportunity. And a credit to her for her hard work.

Her primary choices came down to Sports Psychology or Kiniesiology. Fortunately she was accepted into University of Western Ontario for Kiniesiology, where she has the option to add Law (so she can be a good player agent for NHL players?) or a Business Admin (so can be a front office guru for the Toronto Maple Leafs?). So it is off to Western I think. Having done campus recruiting for IBM at Western, I am so happy. It is a great school that turns out people able to function in real life situations.

Sorry if it sounds like I am bragging. But that is what proud parents do!

Crikey!!! I forgot to mention the other thing is that my both my girls (the 18 year old and my 14 year old) acquired steady boy friends while I was away. I wonder if my wife did?

The good news is that my girls are pretty wise. So I don't think I will be a grandpa too soon if you catch my drift. Unlike one friend of mine who was a grandparent at 35!!!!!

Gord, welcome back.
Sounds like you and your wife have done an awesome job. Not an easy task in today's world.
I have a 15 year old Son, a Son almost 4 and a Daughter almost 2.
Do you have any tips for me? There's days when you want to ride off into the sunset, and then my 2 year old crawls up on your lap and says for the first time " love you daddy", special times indeed.

Gord,

Where I come from it's not bragging if it's true. Congratulations to you and your daughter for making that first 18 years with flying colors (colours). You must be proud, how could you not be?

Gord,
It ain't braggin' when it is your child and they have truly lived up to your expectations. Enjoy each moment with them. Congrats.

Gord,

Brag away. Kids today work really hard at school, & its way more competetive to get into a university than it used to be.

I seriously doubt very many of us could get into our own alma maters.

My oldest daughter is a pretty hard core cross country runner. I could see her looking into a sports related career. What exactly is sports Kiniesiology? Maybe I should talk to her about Canadian schools, but I think she may want a school with a beach.
