This is why I like this route, you can cruise at any speed that you feel like, I passed one car in that 110 miles.

First one to arrive at the 49er, some 1200 miles from home. My comfortable campsite, Kermit chair, BMW rug in front of the tent, AHHH, life is good.

Nice pics, Dean. Thanks.

You know, if you look real close at the two Olde Phartes, and know what you're looking for, you can pick up on the self assuredness and contentment that comes from riding motorcycles fast and well. It's a good place to be.

Hundreds and hundreds of miles of Northern Cal Roads like this, you are lucky to get even 3,000 miles out of a set of tires up here. My ST is ready for a new set after replacing them at the Texas Hill country ride.

You're nearing the "DJ" level of photography, Dean.

Great shots, I have feeling that many "'cafetista" are living vicariously through your posts & pics.

To WW - which pantalones are you wearing in the "hi octane" pic?

The pantalones are BMW Summmer Pants; love 'em. They won't tear and have knee and hip protection, and the legs zip off to show off those flame tattoos on the bony calves...

Great pics Dean-O, and many thanks for not getting a shot of those flame tatoos. Some things are best left to the imagination.

A BMW 1939 R71 and a 1938 R51 that spent the weekend at the 49er riding all over the place, both ran perfectly, in fact I saw the R51 at Alices the next Sunday.

Thanks or all the photos Dean. It warms the heart knowing that such a friendship can evolve from a motorcycle forum.

You started a California (hence US-wide) legendary dealership and effected the market we now enjoy, and you still have the ear of Corporate BMW! I saw it meself, Brothers.

Dean would be strolling amongst the finest collection of original, restored and modern BMW's and people would just offer him gifts! OK, I know he's a modest campaigner, so all I'll say is a certain handsome Remus sweater somehow made it to my motorcycle closet. This had been slightly less than a burnt offering to the Grandpa Hoon of them all from a grateful Auburn vendor.

Like I said, Dean's the real article. We're fortunate to have him as one of our merry cyber band. My most vivid memory of our hasty ride through Lake County was when the Vampire Detector kicked in just in time. And as soon as the CHP was out of our mirrors, Dean blew past me like a bolt of blue lightning, like a rocketship with camping gear bungeed along the fusilage. He was goin' awful fast, and I might be mistaken, but I thought I saw him raise the one fingered salute. Damn! There's noting quite as impressive as the sheer defiance and the speed of a torquey motor nobly handled.

Well, we had a fine few rides together. I took him across some of the gnarliest, most scenic, gently forested, fragrant Spring hills and valleys served by decent blacktop that I know of. We rode the topographic map of tortured land masses thrown up by volcanoes long dead. And at the bottoms lie streams that are a vision. Yep, we had a fine ride together. I wish the Pacific was Dean's backdrop still.

Good to see another Mac (ab)user on the board. If you need any Mac stuff, just ask.

I like the "shingled look" of the '76 shot (when I was a junior in High School).

I dips me lid to you Dean. Thanks for the great pics and it's good to be able to put a face to the names.
You and your mates live a good life and it's good to see that you know how to appreciate that fact. So many others don't get it.
Well done fellas...
