Wooooooooooooooo-Hooooooooooooooooooooooooo !!!
Just finished booking all my arrangements for the 2006 USGP race at Laguna Seca in July, and I am STOKED!!!
If you didn't go last year you missed one of the best races of the season, not to mention a great time at one of the neatest places on earth - The Monterey Peninsula of California. If you can make it this year it is an event that shouldn't be missed.
The dates are Friday, July 21 through Sunday, July 23, 2006, and tickets can be hard ot come by so you better make your plans now.
Laguna Seca was where I had the genuine pleasure to finally meet Ron Kline and his lovely wife, Donna, along with their terrifc daughter, Alex. Hopefully we can get a good group here together to meet up out there for a grand and wonderful time!
I promise that the first round is on me (and maybe the second, third, etc. on through the twentieth or so... :cocktail: ), so I hope you all will be there.
I'll be at the Monterey Plaza Hotel again this year, right on Cannery Row in Monterey, which has a great restaurant and an even better bar! The Monterey Aquarium is alos not to be missed if you can make the trip, and there is tons of wonderful things to do and see in the Monterey area... The famous 17-Mile drive, Carmel (Clint Eastwood's hangout), Highway 1 along the coast, beautiful California women, and an incredible assortment of some of the finest motorcycles you will ever see anywhere... And all that is just among all the other things to do and see out there.
So, how about it? Who all is going to be at Laguna Seca in July?
Cheers!

You mean you're just now getting around to booking? Where you been boy? I started that process back in '05....
Yes, it is gonna be great. And Donna, Alex and I will be there and will be at the Plaza. I'm leaning towards another 'merican victory this year and, since Kentucky has already had its representative, I'm looking to the Tornado to pick up the pace...

Well, Ron...
It really isn't my fault. I've been all over Gerhard since last fall to do my reservations, but he kept telling me he was working on some extras for me, and that we would do all the rest when he tacked those down.
Well, that was all well and good... Except the Plaza was running short of rooms and GPT was running short of tickets! Thank God the lovely Tressa e-mailed last night informing me of those rather relevant facts (and she said she didn't want to miss out on the champagne and cognac extravaganza, either... :) ).
She promised to slap Gerhard for me for damn near ruining my set-up, and I got it all booked today in a flash. I can't wait, and it will be great having you guys staying at the same place. :shade:
Man, Dean-O it will be great having you out there! Maybe we can con you into coming down and staying in Monterey one night and hanging out at our favorite watering hole overlooking Monterey Bay and the Pacific!
And while we're here, Dean... Maybe you can get Ron and I some really terrific low rates on renting some BMW's from Chris... (hint, hint, hint...)
Make mine either an R1200GS or a R1200RT...
Cheers!

Ah, it'll be grand!
I pestered Tressa quite a bit, I have to admit Got absolutely crazed when the tickets went on sale and went ahead and bought those online before the GPT stuff was settled. I was absolutely out of my tree thinking about missing out. We didn't have any special requests of GPT and the deal went through in late Sept or early Oct. Hot dayum!
I don't need a bike while I'm there. But I do want to meet the Hoon and any else of you Cafe folks. Dave? Tucker Rocky needs a real rep there doncha think? Anyone else? Bueller, Bueller?

Hey, Ron...
I got my seats this year over on the back side (Grandstand 4) where I believe you sat last summer. I decided to do that since I had sat in the main grandstand (Grandstand 11) last year on the front straight.
Besides, I figure I can see the bikes better in a corner over there. The start was cool on the main straight, but the way the fence is and stuff you really can't see 'em in the turn leading onto the main straight...
Anyway, got my seats, my GA's for Friday and Saturday, and paddock passes. Still working on trying to score some MotoGP pit/garage passes and the best parking stickers. We'll see...
Cheers!

Allan,
I warn you, if you rent the GS, you will want one beyond your ability to resist, UNLESS you rent one with the servos (which you will, because there are scant few of the "real" ones in the US). You will hate the improved servos enough to write a scathing review of the whole bike.
So, why not rent a Harley? :D
Got ya.

Turn 4 Rules. They come down that straight right at you and then cut across your field of vision and shoot straight for the left that takes 'em back up the hill. Last year we got to see Edwards do a burn out in front of the stands and Tommy Hayden managed to get too far outside after the Dunlop bridge and into the gravel. Something like ninety yards and a cloud of dust.
When Hayden, the Nicky made his lap with the flag and his dad I thought the stands were going to collapse, the crowd was sooooooo into the moment.
I do hope there will be a better organized traffic control coming up from and getting back down to the highway. I really don't think the organizers knew what they were getting into with the crowds. We were taking the Monterey-Salinas shuttles to and from downtown Monterey and the service was fantastic even with the busses being SRO. I read on the 1150R board that there will be a major rodeo going on at the same time as the races, so traffic should be very interesting.
Looking forward to the people watching on the island and elsewhere. It should be fantastic all around.

Well, Ron...
It was your description of the action in front of Grandstand 4 that made me decide to go that route, so I am looking forward to it.
As far as the traffic goes, that's another reason to use a motorcycle out there. As you will recall from my describing it to you last summer, the way the constabulary treats motorcycles for that event was examplary, and it never took me longer than 40 minutes from when I mounted my bike to be back at the hotel in Monterey. The LEO's allowing all sorts of lane splitting and shoulder riding for the bikes, and often even separate motorcycle departure lanes, was a godsend. Absolutely fantastic, and some of the best traffic control I have seen.
I can't wait... Whether I rent a bike while I am out there or bring my own, I will have a motorcycle in my quiver for going to and from the track!
Cheers!

I have the ticket and am planning on going.
Any KOA campgrounds near there? The hotel and motel prices are high, So I'm gonna look into a campground with showers and BEER.

Okay, Guys...
I can tell we are going to start planning a place to meet up at while we're out there at Laguna, both at and away from the track.
Should be pretty easy for Ron and I to hook up since we'll be at the same hotel. We could use that (the Monterey Plaza, on Cannery Row in Monterey) as a rallying point away from the track. It's got a great bar that is open and looks right out on Monterey Bay and the Pacific.
At the track we could pick a time and a place in the paddock or the infield to get together... Maybe at Ducati Island for breakfast if they have that same set-up this year.
Any other suggestions or ideas?
Cheers!

I think we should all congregate at the BMW tent and pester the Hoon senseless...Got any bottled water? Show you my key? How about my Roadside Assistance card...Where's the bathroom? You know, stuff like that.

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh!
That's a great idea, Ron! Damn, I wish I had thought of that myself... :lightbulb:
I can just some more of the questions now:
"Hey, Dean... Can we sit on that bike up on the stand?"
"Dean, where are the BMW Umbrella Girls?"
"Hoonmeister, how come the Honda tent has free calendars and a raffle going for a free Honda RCV-211 MotoGP bike and you guys aren't giving nothing away?"
"Does San Jose BMW have any pit passes? If they do, can I have some?"
"Hey, Dean... How come that display Beemer over there has that big puddle of oil underneath it?"
(Make note to self - Must bring bottle of oil to BMW tent at 2006 Laguna Seca MotoGP race! Check! )
Yep, Ron... That's the place to congregate each morning, for sure.
Oh, and Dean... Can you have some good single malt scotch there to go with the free bottled water?
Cheers!
