Sorry for the delay but I have been under the weather and snowed under with work......here are a couple of pics from my vsit with New2BMW (Jeff) and his priced possesion, before he had an R1150R.......

The weather was really bad so we couldn't get out on the street...so we rode around a bit in the garage of his building. The bike does have a passing resemblance to the new V-Max...but it is far better looking.

I'm sure that it won't be difficult for you to tell who is who.....Psst....I'm the one with the lipstick. Enjoy

Thanks for the pics - beautiful machine! I really like that big old can - looks like a Cohiba Robusto! That bike needs an fender eliminator and LED flushies, other than that, it is pretty much a perfect iteration of the V-twin muscle bike!

I used to be New2BMW, but this new board gave me a chance to update my name.

I agree with Bob. The fender kit is one of first options after an aftermarket exhaust and the footpegs I had to install after being sideswiped by an asshole in RX7 two days after picking up the bike.

Yamaha has offered a few new accessories for 06 and I am dog earing some catalogue pages. Frankly, I've been travelling su much I just enjoy riding when I get home.

Cheers from Tokyo, by way of LA. (Al, I'll be home on Monday evening. We need to get togoether to go to Ueno next weekend.)

TM - Enjoy Ueno! I used to like going up there at Cherry Blossom time and also visiting the zoo when I lived in Yokohama - lovely spot!

The more I see the bike the more impressed I am. Yamaha has done what HD didn't have the guts to do so as not to upset the puist apple cart. Put a decent light chassis with all the right gear under a torque motor.......after all torquey bikes are entitled to turn and brake too..........so simple.......can you spell fun?

In the pics it looks like a massive bike, in the flesh it can stand side by side with a GXXR and not ocuppy much more space....

Jeff......Ueno next weekend sounds like a plan. Have a safe trip home.

Al;
I'll call or write on Tuesday. Ueno it is. Next time you come to my house though, you have to take the MT out for a ride.

You're right Bob, Ueno is a nice place during the cherry blossom time. There are a lot of museums too. The best part is that baiku-gai (bike area) is right down the street and you can find most any motorcycle part or gear all on one street.

DJ;
I'd like to think I keep my bike that clean. Actually the chain was lubed (by me) with that whitish/silver colored crap. I did a good job keeping it off the rest of the bike, but I'm afraid I painted my chain with it and it looks clean in the photo. (I had the Roadster for three years and almost forgot how to lube a chain.):omg:

Nice touch up Kevin. I don't mind at all. I'll post some more shots of her when I get back to my Mac at home.

Muscle bike is a good description. Performance wise it is very similar to a late 60's muscle car with good handling and brakes. (Maybe a breathed on '70 Camaro or Firebird) She tops out at 130, but gets there very fast with lots of torquey smiles.

You can actually buy one in Canada, but they don't sell it in the US.

I know one thing for sure , from reading on this cafe . If everyone had it there way they would one of every brand and style of motorcycle , stored in a huge garage in there back yard . Ready to go at anytime and that MT01 would be at the top of my list .

I can imagine how it sounds and I hope I'm fortunate enough to see one on my travels . I don't know what kind of effect they had for sales in Canada, but I'm sure there's a few around somewhere.

All the best and i hope it serves you well.

No question, all of us are bike nuts. I certainly had a short list about three pages long. The MT haunted me for a long time, but was Europe only. When I found out that I could get one in Tokyo, I didn't even sleep.

I had my eye on a Speed Triple, K1200R, CBR1000, Brutale, Buell, ZX10 and the MT; all the while enjoying the hell out of my R1150R Roadster.

If women were like bikes, I would have been shot by one of them long ago.

By the way, you don't have to imagine the sound, just click here and select one of the links.

:omg: AHHH that was amazing Finally a Vtwin that sound deep throaty (if thats a word ?)the rumble actually sounded like it was going somewhere !

I'm the kind of person who can't stand a loud exhuast that doesn't back
it up with true performance .

It reminds me of the big block V-8's of my youth. Hearing it, you just know there's something dangerous lurking. The exhaust note is the biggest "negative" I have found with my roadster.

That particular MT-01 was sadly destroyed in a crash in Japan.

At the Moto ST one year, Yamaha of Canada entered a MT 01 in the 8 hour at Daytona, sounded great, fun to watch, very hi fuel consumption and not fast comparatively speaking. Would love to have one.
