View Full Version : Gearshift acting funny?

Perhaps I'm paranoid but might as well ask this question. After the time that I went down with the bike a few weeks ago, the feel of upshift appears to have been "altered" for the lack of a better term.
The shift from 1st to 2nd gear seems to have lost its clunkiness and it seems like it's a "soft engagement". The clutch reservoir seems to be at its correct level, no leaks etc.
The bike operates perfectly though.
Is it my imagination or has something gone awry?

No clunkiness? You mean its shifting better? Not like a German transmission?
Soft engagement? Like its not quite in gear? Trying to clarify, did you go down on the left side? Might have knocked the linkage out of adjustment,
OR maybe after a little abuse she does better:eusa_drool:

There is no clunkiness when shifting from 1st to 2nd. All other gear changes seem to be okay. Apparently it shifts better. Will take a longer ride tommorrow and report back.
Yep. I went down on the left side. A very thin sliver of the shift lever was ground away...about 2 mm or so.
Linkage? Was ist das?

The bike does shift differently after I went down. No issues...just a soft engagement instead of a clunky one. I don't know what's wrong and if it's a sign of bad things to come. The only thing I see that can be wrong is a very loose nut at the shifter (linkage?) and I'm not sure how it affects the shifter.
Any ideas/suggestions/comments on diagnosis and fixing are appreciated. Thank you.

Ab..snug that bad boy up to the LOW side. That's the nut that keeps the socket end from rotating. make sure there's not too much slop. Should'nt be unless it has fallen off.

Thanks Rog! Take it easy and heal quickly. In the meantime, I'll try and find a nice Page 3 girl to silk your vibe.
