Guys, per Dean's suggestion I hardwired an SAE lead (with a built in fuse holder) directly to my battery for my heated gear and battery charger so as to avoid using the power socket and thus avoiding the CAN bus system on the ST.
What capacity fuse should I use ? This connection will probably only be used for the Gerbings and the Battery Tender.
Thanks !
Don't have Gerbings, but I'd check the instructions that came with them. They should have the amperage draw listed in the specs. I'd guess that something like 7 amps would be good.
Edited to add that if you're adding multiple pieces, like glove liners, jacket, pants, socks, and whatever else they make, you'll probably need more like 15-20 amps.

I have a 15 Amp fuse in mine. Origionaly used a 10 Amp, ie. 120 watts, it blew after about a 5 hour ride with Gerbings jacket liner and Gerbings gloves full on. No probs with the 15.

Tony,
add the wattage of the accesories you plan to use, then divide by 13 (the general running voltage of the bike) and that will give you the Amp draw you need to cover with the fuse - it will also help you decide what guage of wire thickness you need to use too.

Brian, thanks that's helpful. I knew there was some correlation but frankly I've forgotten all that stuff....
