I hope everyone realizes we have an opening page that has a file of member images with a "randomizer" that changes the image with each visit.
You can click the "Refresh" command or icon in your browser's tool bar and the image will change.
If you're really bored, you can click-up as many image changes as you like. Have a beer with me when you do!
When you are ready to enter the Cafe site proper, just click on the image itself and you will be taken to the "homepage".
You can create an icon for your desktop that will take you to the image page, http://www.motorcyclistcafe.com/
or if you prefer, create one that goes straight to the forum, bypassing the image page, http://www.motorcyclistcafe.com/home.shtml
The choice is yours of course, but it is nice to start with an "Image of the Day". Or "Images"!

I just uploaded a butt-load of new images to the "Image of the Day" file on SmugMug as I'm sure we've all tired of the handful of images there previously. These are not necessarily great or even good pictures, just some personal faves & some fun stuff. But there is some pro stuff from member Dan Peirce also.
I'm not trying to hog this with my images but very few of us have placed any images there. I hope everyone will put some of their best and/or favorites there.

Someday we will probably have an "Eye Candy" section where I personally hope we have all of our "best of the best" images. In the meantime, please post anything of interest to the "Image of the Day" opening page. Digital cameras make photo heroes of us all and there are some guys on here who are just plain great shooters in their own right. Use the hi-rez, large size images that fill the screen. Or the side of a 40 ft. trailer if your name is Allan!
Let's see your stuff!

Could I ask Brother Arkline (Ron) to post basic instructions here on how to upload images to the SmugMug file that you set up for them?
It's easy but I'm all set up with shortcuts and don't really understand the entire procedure well enough to write it. Thanks Ron!

So...let's see some pics boys & girls!

Hey, just to be clear...I did not do any of the tech stuff on the site, I just posted some images.
Thanks Promethean & Ron for that.
Damn...I know I'm forgetting someone!

Where do you go on Smugmug to see or post the pics?????????????

I think if you just go to the old R1150R section and do a search for "Eye Candy" (without quotes) it will take you there.
To upload images you have to be logged on...but I don't know the logon info.
Maybe Ron coul post a brief procedure?

Hey guys, please don't take this as just a whine from someone who has his little feelings hurt or his ego bruised...I'm really interested in getting some comments on this for the good of the Cafe.

Last week I spent over half the weekend rounding up images, sorting them, putting them into an upload directory, uploading to our SmugMug "Eye Candy" file for our opening page rotating "Image of the Day", and posting all about it on here. I added well over 100 images. Mainly it took so long because I'm slow!

That generated comments from only 2 members.

I'm not sure what that means...Do we not care about images? Do we not care about the rotating "Image of the Day" images on an opening page? Did you not see the post? Is it a personal thing? (I've been told I can be a "bit abrasive" at times...imagine that!)

We've only had 4 or 5 of us post to the SmugMug Eye Candy file at all and that's a real shame, given all the great images we see on here in the Sections. The problem with those is they gradually slip off the page and are gone. I'd like to see the better ones show up again & again.

But it's up to you guys now, I'm not going to miss any more day rides with my buds to rub on the picture files for Cafe if nobody is interested enough to participate or even comment.

Thank you for your time.

Dave....I don't have any images of my own that are any good. In the past Bones and Mike F. have sent me images that I've placed in the folder.

Darth,
I think the lack of comments was probably more of a function of the fact that they were on the opening page (as opposed to in a thread) than anything else. I certainly didn't comment, but I have my computer set up to go to that opening page first so I could enjoy the "toy surprize inside" everytime I would visit the Cafe' . I also didn't comment because I have no idea whose pictures many of those came from. I know there are about 5 of mine in the mix, but I assumed the pics came from lots of different sources.

I like seeing something different whenever clicking in and do enjoy it. But I doubt there will be many comments, just because of where they are.

Thanks Jeff, you may be right.
But I explained that in the first post (above) and provided a link to the rotating image "opening page", so...I don't know.
Anyone who is not set to open on that page may be missing some fun.
Let's see some more of your pics on there Doctor Bones...is that your little guy on the yellow Suzy?

I tend to read the site at work when things are slow. Sadly, our company has "picture sites" (including smugmug) blocked. Makes wasting company time a lot less fun! :icon_cry:

From my home PC I log directly into the forum page here. I'll have to change that on the short cut so I and see the pretty opening pictures. Had to do the same thing over at Advrider.com.

Location and such for said Eye Candy file?

Hey Dave

I, for one, appreciate all the pictures and those who post them.
But photos, along with a little write up are the best. Photos with out a few words outlining the setting just aren't as effective.

RE; opening page. I'm sure a lot of us log on by just clicking on to the "visited sites" or whatever it's called. We just pick up where we left off. Some probably don't even know that opening page exists.

I recently decided to learn to use my new digital camera and to teach myself how to post photos, along with a few words for each one. Well, it's a heck of a lot harder than I imagined it would be.

I managed to fumble my way thru the process, up to getting my stuff on a URL server. But then I ran into a problem with the server only letting me post one full size photo per post.
That's why I aborted my "Great Smoky Mtns" post. I had what I thought were a bunch of good shots of the area and roads. I can't count the hours I put into that project.

But out of the hundred and some people who looked at that thread, no one said any thing. Now, someone could have blasted me for wasting space and the time of those looking in, or someone could have said "Hey, where's the rest of the pictures" or something. But nobody said anything, including you.

I don't have any answers, and I'm not promoting false flattery or anything. But as you've experienced, a word of acknowledgement or encouragement can go a long way in prompting people to speak up or post photos or to learn their way around this site. Otherwise, it too easy to say" who cares?"

Dave;
I really wish that I would have kept a copy of your buddy's TL powered dirt track replica. Can you post that again?
Cheers,
Jeff

Jeff -
The image of the TL street tracker is in the Eye Candy rotating "Image of the Day" opening page but I'll be happy to post it specifically.
You can "Refresh" your way through those images one at a time but there's a "bunch of them" now and it would take a while to find the TL tracker!

Arby -
Yeah, I know what you mean about sometimes just saying "who cares" but I think someone always does and we just have to keep on keepin' on.
Honestly, I often don't even read "trip report" posts, I just don't personally care much about those, plus they tend to run long and I just have to "hit & run" pretty quick, as often as I can, to stay involved.
Nothing against trip reports at all and I'm very happy we have them.
My interests are more the machines, racing, hooliganism (at least what passes for it at 62!) and anything "techie"; so don't feel bad about me not posting on trip reports.

I'm not sure if you're a paid member but if so, a PM to Arkline will get directions to the Eye Candy file.

Thanks boys,

Thanks boys,

Nah, I'm still a freeloader so that must be the problem. :embarassed:
