Hi all,
I plan to upgrade the vBulletin version tomorrow (14th May 2006) around 12:00 PM CST. There should be no interruption for users on the forum. If you encounter any problems...please direct your email to webmaster (at) motorcyclistcafe (dot) com. Thanks.

I got sidetracked by other stuff and did not get to upgrading the s/w this weekend. Will let you guys know when I have it scheduled.

Okey dokey. I have the vBulletin upgrade on my disk. I'll have to close the board briefly to upgrade. This is scheduled to take place tomorrow after noon. You'll see a "board temporarily closed" message while the upgrade is happening. Check back in a few minutes from then.

Thank you Abhijeet!
Any changes we lowly users will notice, or is it all transparent?

Dave,
They're just minor fixes. No real change in the "user experience" is expected. :)

Wouldn't ya' know it, though, Abhijeet...

I am reading the board one minute, type out a really good reply in a thread and get it polished just *so*... Hit the submit button and *POOF*!!!

Screen that says the board is updating, come back in few minutes...

And the post is lost forever in the ether.

Oh, well... :037:

Thanks for doing all the grunt work! The board wouldn't exist without ya', and I know everybody here appreciates it a ton!

Cheers!

Crap! Sorry about that. :icon_redface:

Running an upgrade without closing the board would introduce the risk of database corruption. If there were a way to let the users know in real-time that the board is being closed for maintenance....I would. However, vBulletin does not have that feature. If it does, I haven't looked hard enough.

You should have been able to recover that post by hitting the back icon on your browser.

I'll see what can be done to run upgrades without causing too much disruption, short of doing them when no one is online...which is a little difficult considering we have folks logging in from various different timezones not including UK, Australia and the US.

Again...apologies.

No apologies necessary, Abhijeet...

I was only reporting it more as a joke than anything else, as in "just my luck..." or the like. Hell, nobody wants to read what I write anyway, so definitely no harm done! :037:

BTW, hitting the back button on the browser (IE at the time) produced only a blank posting page, with nothing of what I had typed. But no biggie... If I want to reproduce it I can get close when I have time.

It was only the final chapter of my Honda NR-500 story. No big deal. :icon_wink:

That's what ended up gettin' me banned on the other board...

Cheers!

Abhijeet,

Nothing like a transparent upgrade. I can remember many that were planned that way, few that ended up that way.

Thanks
