After my recent bash ($7000 of damage and at least 5 weeks with no bike) up I'm thinking about upgrading my cylinder protection as this was the only part of the bike that was functionally damaged from my spill (who needs turn signals anyway:icon_mrgreen: ). The stanton guards are clearly a big step up above the silly little plastic things I had on it at the time. I'm just wondering about the implications of redestributing the force of any future falls with the stantons - ie will I do more harm than good?
for any of you not familiar, here's the link to the product:

Those look like they would protect your bike in the event of an accident. Years ago (about 23 of them) I had on old Suzuki GS750E with a big, air-cooled inline 4. I had "case savers" installed on the bike and promptly took it out and low sided it in a fantastic display of sparks. The sparks were the case savers wearing right down to paper-thickness and stopping right before the engine case. If I had not had them on, I can only imagine that the spark show would have ended with connecting rods and cylinders all over the highway.
I think the Stantons do mess up the clean lines of the bike, but they definitely give it "belt and suspenders" protection!

I think the extra force shouldn't be such an issue...where they would be good is once sliding our bikes can lift a wheel or two and pivot over more causing damage above the normal BMW protectors...eg. the upper side of the valve cover..the Stanton's have equal protection above and below.
I've been thinking about making sliders like most modern bikes have now (the skateboard wheel type)...I'm still thinking about it.

The stock plastic gilhoolies cost $60 each, making these cast aluminum pieces a bargain! Thanks for the link.

You can't go wrong with the Stantons. Jim is here local in the Phoenix area and a serious GS'er. Good Dude to deal with, had em on my R, but never ops checked them.
