Anybody planning to go. It just happens to fit in with my ride back to Tempe from here in the DC area, so I will probably ride down on Saturday, attend some festivities Saturday night, then head West via Deal's Gap some time Sunday afternoon.

If any of you folks are game it would be great to see you.

Three things.
First off, When you leave Hot Springs you'll head down US Rt 19 past Maggi Valley, Cherokee and Bryson City. As you continue south on 19, watch for North Carolina Rt 28, not sure if it's north or west, but it'll be a right turn for you. 28 starts out as a modern road but turns in to a tight curvy mountain road that takes you over to US 129 at the base of Deal's Gap. It's a great ride,
but that area, including Deals Gap will be busy, beware of bikes running wide in the opposite direction.

Second, There's an adventure touring style dual sport ride being held in that area that weekend. Sat & Sun the ride headquarters is at the Andrews Valley Inn on Us 19 bypass in Andrews NC.
Just continue pass the 28 turn off and go another 12-15 miles and The Inn is on the left side of the road. Can't miss it.
Both Sat & Sun are back road/forest service type roads. Should be good for your GS.(Or at least doable). If you've never done one, it's just like signning up for a dirt bike race, or probably a track day. The only special equipment needed is a roll chart holder or a gps to hold the route info.

Third, We're doing Biff's ride in Marrietta Ohio that weekend, but we'll be back in that area Monday. We'd be happy to put you up Monday night, and show you some great roads from our place ,over Deals gap, and on the Tenn side as well.
If you're interested and time permits.

If we don't see you, hope your trip goes well.

Thanks so much for the great info! You confirmed what I thought - it will be crowded at the Gap and I need to look out for motorcyclists running wide in the opposite direction, ie, into my path!

My schedule is a little tight - I will get in to Hot Springs Saturday afternoon - hit the ADVRIDER get together, and then probably head out to the Gap in the morning and then West. My daughter is graduating from High School at the end of the week, and then the following weekend I am teaching a BRC.

Enjoy Ohio - and thank you again for your informative post!
