In one of those R1200R threads a buncha pages ago, you said (leastwise I remember you did) that spy pics would be showing up in April. Well goddammit, it's May and I need something to tide me over.

What gives?

I was at my local BMW dealer today.....looked around...and for the first time..ever.....I see no RR's.

20-30 new bikes...and no Roadsters...no Rocksters....not even in the second hand bikes.

I'm thinking...Ohhhhhh...It's getting close now...for the new RR.

I asked them..and they said..."not till towards the end of the year"...this year.

They said...with a big grin..."it will be very special".....I still have a smile on my face now..:icon_biggrin:

the "normal" sequence is: heavily disguised spy shots, then lightly disguised, then factory shots, then a major MC show (Milan/Frankfurt), then release to Europe, and finally, the US. It's spring in Europe, so they (the "spy" photographers) should start seeing test mules on the road, disguised. The Milan show is in September/October, so...... I am surprised we've seen no spy shots from Africa, or Death Valley, for that matter. BMW has been keeping serious wraps on the new R, whereas the GS & RT & K bikes all got leaked pretty early. They either can't get the styling right, or it's a major change that they want to keep a secret until the last possible moment. The running gear is nothing new, it's basically what the GS1200 has proven/exposed over the last 1.5 years. I don't expect anything ground breaking except the styling. It sure makes for good speculation, no?
This bike is still the "entry-level" boxer, so expect a tame version (or 850 again), but I expect maybe 2 or 3 versions, possibly an HP variant.

Oh, but the US won't get these bikes on the ground until probably next year, about March/April.

Collyer has it 99% correct.

My understanding is that BMW is holding the new Roadster closer to its vest than any previous bike, another will be the upcomming................V TWIN with spy shots prolly the last quarter of '07

BTW, the V twin has not been written about on any site world wide, the first written mention or even rumor is in our good ole "Cafe", right here today....

I know I'm most likely wrong, wrong, wrong... But...

I still can't imagine BMW making an R-1200-R, and given their present pricing policies if they do it will be so high priced relative to other *standards*, or "naked" bike competitors that its sales will be pretty dismal.

In my mind, if they price it too low it will rob F-800 sales, and if they price it too high it will only get brutally outsold by Beemer's own GS and R-1200-S.

Now don't get me wrong... I would just love to see a bright, shiny, new 2007 R-1200-R - based on the R-1200-GS like the R-1150-R was based on the 1150-GS, all torquey yet lighter and lower - but whose going to buy it other than a very few R-1150-R fanatics? The R-1150-R was one of BMW's worst selling models, and though I love my R-1150-R, I know I would pay a probable $13,000+ dollars for it's replacement.

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I still have serious doubts as to if BMW will ever build it.

And now Dean learns they are going to be making a V-Twin... Now my guess is that is going to be an Aprilia-based smaller bike - smaller than the F-800 parallel twins - ala 450 or 550cc's. BMW has needed a bike down in that size range for a long, long time, and Aprilia needs the money and dealer network that a BMW/Aprilia V-twin would come from the additional sales of the engine. And the Aprilia V-twin is perfect for BMW because they could have a 450/550-GS, a 450/550-R, a 450/550-S, and even a 450/550-ST/RT variant. My bet is on 550 or 600cc's, and not a 450, though.

Now of course this all pure conjecture and supposition on my part. Nothing more than an opinion, to be sure.

Just want to clear that up before Jason turns my simple statements above into a "rant" about BMW pricing or that God needs to have mercy on my soul...

Cheers!

And, you do realize it's "may God have mercy on your soul" I don't recall mispelling it.

I noticed you quote it as Merch in a different thread, so I wasn't sure if it was a typo or not. Of course, if you weren't going out of your way to slam me in every thread you post in, it wouldn't be an issue. :020:

Hmm... memories of BMW to have a "relationship" with Aprilia... something that Dean mentioned a while ago, but very generally, as I recall. Now more specific with a V twin. Rotax V twin?

Something like this that's already in the Tuono?

http://www.rotax.com/NR/rdonlyres/CA0FA699-D264-4EAC-B444-44E07515FEB6/0/Thumbnails.jpg

And just when I was moving on from the Tuono and thinking more about the R1200R or S... maybe I should re-consider... gee, life is tough!
