Finished up installing a Remus exhaust system on the big K1600GT this morning.

The weight difference between the twp Remus exhaust together and the two stock exhausts together is about 25 lbs, have not ridden it yet, but with out removing the incerts and blipping the throttle the sound is fantastic, not too loud, like an old XK140 Jag with a lightened flywheel. the Remus quality of all the componants and ease of assembly is absolutely top notch.

Dave, just cans. Would love an complete system that eliminates the two Cats, one on each side. BTW, it would be a piece of cake to gut the Cats as they are easy to see inside, Pams fingers are pointing to the Cat.

This is the new tail pipe between the Cat and Remus Can. The clamp is still loose.

Here is the complete Remus system without the heat shield.

Just road it to town and the sound is fantastic. Not too loud but OH BABY. The throttle seems chrisper also. Even at 7,000 ft elevation, this big mama tries to pull your arms out of their socket.

Dean..me likey!
That really cleans up Gertrude's ass and lightens the load somewhat. Leave the keys in her and I'll take her out for a midnight wake up next week.

Yeah Bob...she might just sound & run fine with just the tapers. We'll try that next month!
Do you usually keep cats in your pants? Seems a little kinky to me.
Dean, I bet you get 90+% of the performance gains from just the cans. They have those cats breathing pretty good these days.
Of course I dumped the cat on my little Kwacker...:patch:

The power and throttle response seem chrisper with seemingly a little more below 4K RPM torque. But the real kicker is the sound, oh my God...the sound. Not overly loud or raspy but smooth, throaty, totally intoxicating. In fact the last two times I road the bike have been with out ear plugs :eusa_whistle:.
This is what I would imagine driving a BMW 850 IL with the V-12 engine and a trick exhaust would be, truly a Velvet Sledge Hammer.
Looks great, Dean! I bet the the cats are helping to keep the sound level down. it might be too loud for a (sport) touring bike if you removed them.
Looks great just the way it is, and I'm sure the performance and sound are right there, too.

Me too.
But...every bike I have ever put a performance system or muffler(s) on has also responded to a free-flow air filter, including 3 BMWs, one fuel injected.
I generally use K&N and, despite all the "Internet wisdom", have been very pleased with them, short & long term. I use them on cars & trucks too.
K&N doesn't make one yet for my ER6 N so I got a European BMC, very similar to K&N, but has a red rubber frame. Same type of oiled, pleated gauze in a stainless wire mesh matrix. Life-time filter, cleaned & re-oiled.
It completes the package on the ER6 N, of pipe, ECU programmer & filter and frees it up a bit more.
If no one has one out yet for the K16s, they will!
Slip that puppy in there and go ride!
Later, I'd look into an ECU programmer too. The newest gen ones are amazing. Mine from Vance & Hines for the ER6 N samples & corrects air/fuel ratio at 30-something different results (at 150 time per second!) and allows you to very easily "program" the unit for whatever types of exhaust, intake and other engine mods. The power boost mainly comes from the pipe, but a little more and even better "drive-ability" is in the controller..."smuuuth, smuuuth, smuuuth"! :ricky:
"Advanced" users can program minor power curve changes too. It changes that a good bit already though...and I am not an "advanced user"!
Granted, the UCU in your bike is higher-shelf than the one in my little Kwacker, so YRMV!
I have not used a programmer on my other FI bikes, but I have one for the R1150R I will install after the B&B Bash.

"Your engine is an air pump. Changing how much air gets out won't make much difference until you change how much air goes in. It's a system with many related parts."
So sayeth Imams Rash, Beal and Gilbert.

I agree with Your comments Dave and the Panther :)...Hell, I don't even know where the air filter on the beast is yet. on later BMW's changing out the head pipes and eliminating the Cat does more good power wise than just the can.I am keeping a close eye on the various sites looking for more stuff.

Wise words indeed. I have not made that mistake. I did take Terrie out on a Victory Vision once...she told me I needed one of these.

I read years ago that Honda did focus groups for Gold Wing passenger comfort with the specific intent of making the bike pillion friendly. They wisely understood that many buyers in that category of bike would have a wife involved and "if Momma's happy, then everybody is happy."

This looks great Dean; is it possible to post a video with sound of the Remus set-up?
Deans BMW
08-19-2011, 09:20 AM
Ed, I don't have anyway to do that.
Ed, just go to YouTube and search for K 1600 Remus or K1200 in your case - lots of video with sound out there.
Like this one Bill...

(If your digital camera has video, there are free websites to post videos, like pictures, to the Cafe.)
