Hey ViintageMX'r -

The "Vintage" part you or the bikes? Both? Yeah, me too.
I just checked out your website...cool! A trip down memory lane for sure. I was running Hare Scrambles in Texas national forests when you were racing MX and crashing on hapless Hodaka riders! We have lots of ex-racers (old farts) on here.
I bet you like it here but a warning...we are very "specialized" here and are particular about who we let in.
Do you love motorcycles? Any motorcycles? All motorcycles?
OK, you're in!
Post early & often

Hi Dave and thanks for the welcome. I've been scouting around looking for a general bike board that would be fun and not over run with squids or excessive political ranting. There seems to be a nice collection of old fahrts here and that gives the place the nice lived in feel we all like.

The "vintagemxr" tag goes back to the '90s when I took a swipe at vintage motocross on a 250 Pursang. Had a pretty good time, maybe more than when I raced way back when, but life got in the way and the collection of Bultacos got sold off to pay for less entertaining things. It also hurts more to fall down at 48 than it did at 19. I've still got a 100cc Sherpa S in the backyard and the engine is restored and sitting in my living room. So yeah, I guess you could say I love bikes. :)

2006 marks my 40th year of riding and I scouting around for another bike to buy to maintain my average of one bike a year. An '05 ST1300 is my current entertainment and I'm shopping about for some sort of dirt oriented thing. The new Triumph Scrambler looks wonderful but I got married back in Dec. so I'll have to settle for something less pricey for bike number 40. No, the ST won't be leaving though. Anyone want to trade me a dual sport bike for some Cowboy Action Shooting guns? :071:

TY again for the welcome!

Welcome Doug to our merry band of Cafe dwellers, and BTW, who you calling an old fart, you are going to hurt Darthrider's feelings as he truly is an Old Fart.

I just picked up a barly used '05 Kawasaki KLR 650 to ride all the back roads up here, in fact, just getting ready to ride it to Alpine and then on down to Blue canyon. A bike you might consider, BTW where do you live in Arizona?

Dean, note that I called Darthrider (and others) and old "fahrt." German word..."trip"... :) However, some no doubt, are old farts. All good and well as with the passing of years we each learn to not give a rip which of course is the essence of old fart-dom.

Love the KLR 650, had one years ago and think regularly about another one. What a great bike for the money! My neighbor Jim rides a red one like yours and loves the bike. Read your ride report elsewhere here. Excellent stuff. Mrs. Vintagemxr and I were down Silver City way a couple of weeks ago in the car. Nice are, I'd for sure have a dual sport if I lived down that way or out your way.

I had an Aprilia Caponord until late last year, would love to have another but can't quite fit it into the budget at the moment. Then again, that new Triumph is still calling my name. But the KLR is waaay less money which is a fact that may win out in the end. There are tons of dirt highways and byways around my area too (Casa Grande, AZ) but none quite as scenic as the Highway 191 area.

Doug, I can tell that you are going to fit in the Cafe, quiet well. Dave Howe, (Darthrider) is still an old fart however.

With your above statement, you have undoubtedly captured the best part of old fart-dom.

Thanks for the welcome, Roger. I make it out your way a few times a year via "Dead Cow Highway" from Maricopa to Gila Bend and then up to Avondale for some good Mexican food at Raul & Teresa's restaurant.

Always glad to meet up with another AZ rider or have an excuse to ride somewhere for Mexican food.
