The 1200GS has been racing around in my head for the past few weeks. But, the 1150r is still running like a champ so I'm having a hard time thinking about laying all that $$$ on the table when I currently have a bike that works. However, I have a feeling the F800GS might be just the ticket.

It will give me at least another years use out of the 1150r, it won't IMHO have servo ABS, it will be less expensive, and it should still meet all my needs. So the question for those in the know becomes. When will we have the details so I can go put a deposit down. If the F800GS shows up next spring (I have a funny feeling it may) I would prolly pull my name off the hypermotard list and put it in for the 800GS.

the minute I find out. If it even makes it here, it'll be an '08 model, released in Fall '07. Make mine 385lbs, 65hp, and either WP or Ohlins suspension (at least for the HP3 model). Kill or make ABS switchable, 24/28 litre gas tank, 6 speed, and no silly double front fenders. Make it better than the last KTM LC4 Adventure, and keep it under $9k. If not, then why bother to replace the 650GS? This will virtually guarantee many KTM Adventure converts, and a model sell-out. Make it look mean like this:

this bike is really good, except 1) still too heavy (425lbs), 2) tiny futticking gas tank, and 3) gonna cost $14k.
BMW could really make some waves with a SuperMoto option, too. Just put some 17s, HUGE brakes, sporty forged wheels, and a slipper clutch.
But, that's just me.

I just discovered the current Euro-only F800ST weighs 209kg/460lbs & has 25kW/34HP!

If you look again at the "specs" panel, which has been printed in a most confusing manner, you will see that there are two power outputs listed.
Nearly all European countries, including the UK, have a driving licence requirement that restricts new riders to 34hp for the first two years.
So pretty much any new motorcycle you care to name can be had in the "restricted" form.
The bureaucrats wanted people to spend their first two years on a nice "safe" little 125cc or 250cc but people were learning to ride and then not riding anything for the two year probation period. Then they would go out and buy a 'Blade or R6 with the inevitable result.
The manefacturers cottoned on to this and list "restrictor" kits for just about anything. The punters were happy (a 34hp model LOOKS the same as the full power one afterall) and could take to the streets on a slow bike that looks fast.
For those of an enquiring mind, you may be interested to learn that the "restrictor" kit is generally just a small metall bracket that bolts on to the throttle assembly (at the carb/injector end) and stops anything over about half throttle being used. These can be removed "by an authorised workshop, after the probation period" or (more normally) by a friend sometime during the 24 months!
So, there is nothing to fear. Your F800's (and mine) will come in the "full fat" version!
