Dudes, dudettes, and dudelettes,

Turkish MotoGP on SpeedTV. One o'clock in the afternoon on SpeedTV on the Pacific coast, an hour later for Mountain, two hours later for Central and 4:00 on the East Coast time. Who will be the next in line?

Current top five points holders:

Capirossi - 41
Hayden - 36
Pedrosa - 30
Rossi - 27
Elias - 21

Who'll win this one????? Nicky's on a tear. Capirossi is doing fine. Is Valentino beginning to swing the hammer? Still looks like a great season...

Why is he flipping me off?

Is that normal for those guys to brake and clutch with just the middle finger?

Does everyone get the same English commentators to the Motogp's?

There is one that drives me round the bend!! Spoils the whole event. Every thing is 'absolutely', and ''very, very' this and that and has to comment about what every rider is always thinking, knows all their strategies all the time and every second is commenting on Casy Stoner. The guy over commentates all the time. I wish he would sut up and lets us see the show and hear the bikes!!!

How can one get a message to him?

Acacia,

Yup, I think that those Brits have a lock on the English language commentary, except for the Laguna Seca race where the SpeedTV people take it over...

Speaking of SpeedTV, I'd love to get up close and personal with the dude or dudes that decide when to stick the commercials in....

Ooops..sorry Westy isn't on pole..even though he went way fastest in final qualifying...it must be a different system for the 250's.

Good, freeking god! What a race! It doesnae get any better'n that. Ever. Anywhere. But Turkey?

I managed to steal an hour from my duties to watch and I swear that race lasted about fifteen minutes of thrills and action. Them "new" kids can ride, eh wot?

The Aussies were superb. Hayden is maturing quite nicely. I thought that Hopkins was going to pull a rabbit out of his hat for once. And Rossi lucked/worked his way into some points. Jeez, there was a constantly changing crew of five throughout the race heading up the desire to stand on the top step, let alone the other two.

This is the first race in a while where someone didn't get out in front and get completely away by fractions. Honda should be very happy, Pedrosa notwithstanding. Oh, those new kids can freekin ride alright. Pedrosa picked himself up after washing out the front and trotted towards his bike with his arms out in front in supplication. Too bad for him. But not for long, I'll bet. He's got the stones to be a serious, long term winner. And Gibernau, mein gott, lead the race for the longest time! Gibernau!

Hayden tops the points, with one more than Capirossi. Stoner has one more point than the Doctor. And Melandri sits between the two on the top and the next two. This is an amazing year. I'm soooooo glad I have cable. Soooooo glad.

Pedrosa used up his tires about 3 laps too soon.

Stoner didn't have the "stones" to out-squeeze Melandri, but he's got just about everything else needed to win.

The Gibernau Curse holds - he hasn't won a GP race since 2004!

Rossi matched lap times today, but with a chattering front end you could see in my living room, he couldn't have caught the leaders in 40 laps.

Too bad Chris V's tires went away - seems like the medium-medium set up was the way to end the race in a high spot.

I'll take the tosser's commentary over the idiots that called the 2005 Laguna Seca race every day of the week, and TWICE on Sunday.

The US didn't get to see the 250 race - what'd we miss?

Here's a view that we don't often see.

Out of the way Sete...let the young guns through..don't worry..it's not Rossi right up you arse this time....that will come latter in the race.

http://www.mcnews.com.au/motorcycleracing2006/motogp/rnd3/gallery_a/images/Gibernau_06GP03_2016_AN.jpg

Check out the lean angle..soon they'll be needing elbow sliders...:003:

http://www.motorsport.com/photos/motogp/2006/tur/motogp-2006-tur-tm-0292.jpg

What happened in the 250's?...in the first corner...Lorenzo (the championship leader) got T boned from behind and it was like domino's..I think about ten went down.

Aoyama gave KTM their first win...yes KTM...after a non stop fairing banging elbow knocking cat fight right to the last lap..Babara and De Angelis almost took each other out.....it's a shame you guys don't get the 250's.

Re the Moto Gp..we knew Marco was going to do a Kamikaze on the last few corners...Stoner did the right thing (it's better to avoid a crash)...but give him a few more races and he'll be giving it right back to him for sure.

Will Stonner be the next Doohan?

Thanks, DJ. We usually get the 250 race after the MotoGP, but not on days that coincide w/Formula Extreme or AMA RR events. Too bad, it's nice to see who'll be annoying Gibernau next year. Speed Channel, terrible sound quality, poor programming, but they actaully carry F1 & MotoGP, so we're stuck with them...

Stoner looks about 14 years old - he is indeed the successor to Mick. Better second than crashed! He's got lots of time to win races.

KTM's 250 is not so bad - I wish they had an 850 to shove into a MotoGP chassis for next year......

The commentator said it was the best 250 race he'd ever seen...

We get it twice..once on Fox (cable) and also on free to air (channel Ten)..I just watched it all a second time.

I think it was De Angelis in the 250's on the last last that collided with another rider and careered off onto the grass (damp grass) coming down the straight at about 270 kph (170mph) and held on to it...wow!..wot a wild ride.

There was lots of camera angles including one from the bike following...how he held onto it was amazing.

It's a shame they kicked Westy off the KTM team...I thought he did a good job.

Casey Stoner should do well...I'm sure we'll see some ding-dong battles with him and Pedrosa in the near future.

This point in the corner is obviously that critical transition point near the apex where the riders are going from brakes to throttle, and are at max lean and tire loading... How can you tell? Well, all their elbows are down, not up in the "attack" corner entry position, indicating they have all already rooled on the throttle. The bikes are healed at about their maximum, and though each rider has at least one finger on the front brake none seem to have any front brake applied. Their arms are also relatively relaxed, not tensed and pressing on the bars to resist braking forces.

To me this all says they are all already on *exit* just past where their respecitve apexes were...

Now, first look at Casey Stoner. He is clearly in *oversteer*, sliding the back wheel and clearly correcting with slight opposite lock with the front, all as he drifts across the back of Malandri's rear wheel. Nicky appears to be drifting both wheels equally and on a clean exit... Now look closely at Melandri... He's actually *pushing* the front wheel (understeering) slightly, as the bike being *picked up* a bit, his body leaned a little more forward and his inside shoulder a bit more dipped, and his apparent line pointing wide of both Hayden's and Stoner's!

Cracking stuff! To see three obviously different cornering situations for three different riders in the same corner and in the same photograph.

Damn! What a race!

Cheers!

Allan (Dallara - NACD)

WARNING! Please note that none of the bikes pictured in the various photographs in this thread have ABS, and so are obviously way too dangerous for mere humans to operate, particularly at the speeds they are travelling. These riders obviously don't know that they are incapable of controlling their braking as well as a computer chip and should have pulled off the course immediately and asked for a NHTSA investigation and report, even if that report were done with automobiles or donkey carts (since both have wheels and operate on pavement their dynamic handling traits and braking behavior should be "identical"). No doubt, in 2007, BMW will enter MotoGP - with servo-assisted ABS, of course - and show Honda, Yamaha, Ducati, Kawasaki, and Suzuki how it's done - and prove ABS is clearly the greatest thing since sliced bread, and if you don't believe that may God have mercy on your soul.

A lot of why these three have seriously differing attitudes at this moment is because all three had widely varying approaches to this turn. Watching the race, you could see Nicky brake very late, come in close, back it in a little, and try to stay close on exit - although a few times he's blow it and drift way wide to recover from coming in too early/too hot. Stoner was very consistently coming in wide and exiting tight to set up for the next. Melandri was probably the most consistently smooth entry/exit rider of the day (on leader's pace). Awesome racing, I hope Speed Channel decides to air the 250 race this week (at 2 or 3 AM, I'm sure).

...and prove ABS is clearly the greatest thing since sliced bread, and if you don't believe that may God have merch on your soul.

What's merch? And can it be wiped off?

Nope, Collyer... Unfortunately "merch" can't be wiped off. It is a permanent condition that once God and the devout fanatics of all things ABS stain you with that you are branded with for life.

Fortunately, however... Merch is a good thing. It signifies you down not follow someone else's blind obidience to an as yet unproven technological *marvel*, and that you still are willing to take responsibility for your actions, as well as control over your own existence and decision-making capabilities... and not give yourself over completely to governmental double-speak and marketing department ad hype. Merch is continuing to learn to do things better all by yourself, and not depend on a microchip to do things for you.

Merch is a good thing... An noble thing... A badge of honor. Something to be proud of, particularly if you are a motorcycle rider.

Valentino Rossi has a ton of it. Nicky Hayden has buckets of it. Casey Stoner and Marco Melandri have a bunch of it, too. I am proud to have a little of it myself, and am trying every day to get some more. I know you have it.

Unfortunately, there are those who don't have any of it, and never will. More importantly, they don't want it, and see those that have it or desire as lesser than themselves. They see those that want to control and take responsibility for their own lives silenced and set aside in the name of governmental heresay and manufacturer hooplah...

Merch, like common sense, is rapidly disappearing, so I cry out "Save the Merch! If we're not careful it will be gone forever!"

Cheers!

Allan (Dallara - NACD)

WARNING! Merch is not equipped with ABS, and never will be, Thank God!
