Okeeeee-Dokeeeeeee, Fellow Peckerheads!

It's time to start planning for the Fall 2006 Texas Big Bend Bash!

Here's what we do know...

The base of operations will be Alpine, Texas. I would say there is a 95% chance we will be basing out of the Ramada Inn there in Alpine, just like last fall.

Date will fall on one of the weekends between October 13th - 15th and November 10th - 12th. What this means is that we will discuss this a bit here and on the e-mail list and get a bit of a consensus as to a date that we effect the fewest peoples' schedules. Once we land on a date the real tight planning starts so if you want to attend and there is a date that fits you best please voice it ASAP... The quicker we can all land on a date the better we can make the ride for everybody.

If you have never been to the Texas Big Bend country you owe it to yourself to give it a try. Great roads, beautiful vistas, and an unbelievable amount of totally unspoiled geography to soak into your synapses.

So, it's time for you to get your ideas, suggestions, etc. in for the ride, and let's make it one for the history books!

Cheers!

Allan (Dallara - NACD)

I like Alpine and the Ramada Inn is a great choice! I think they might even offer an up-stairs meeting room for the get together. Also the parking lot has lots of BMW HOON oil soaked in. The ride from Alpine into Big Bend is where the high speed trials are held, only the Border Patrol Balloon keeping track of Lewis on his RT. I especially liked the ride back into Alpine -just past the Border Patrol Station. I will check the Highway Department for closed roads and those under construction. HWY 170 was missed by most last year but it is a must ride!

I will be riding out and can meet up anywhere between San
Antonio or Del Rio if you go that way. The ride out and back is as much fun as Big Bend and esp. if you ride with Bill. You might even meet Melissa at the Chevron, or become a chapter in someone’s book they are writing, I think there is more research that needs to be done.

Texas, eh? Never been there, but that time of year is prime for riding in the Southwest. Any weekend in there would work for me, I think. Granted, I'm a total lightweight when it comes to long days in the saddle... the most I've ever done in a day is about 300 miles, but that's with the stock R saddle, and I pretty much stood on the pegs for the last 50 miles. Now, however, with the new-to-me Sargent saddle and the Cee Bailey 21.5-incher, all of a sudden 650 miles don't seem insurmountable... hm... :102:
