:(:(

Paused on a rural main road last thursday on the way home from work (first day back on a bike after the Rockster/LandRover interface, and riding the wife's K1200R), in order to clear some wood debris from a fallen branch. I was pulling right into a driveway when suddenly I find myself sitting on the road in a dazed state.

Some idiot drove up behind me and completely didn't see me until the last minute so smacked into me at around 40mph.

Still not sure what state the K is in, it's being delivered to our dealer for assessment tomorrow.

Insurance company (wife's insurance) reckon it's completely a non-fault situation, but we have yet to discuss it with the police who attended (I wasn't really able to give much input at the time).

I was beaten up a fair bit - I think I was thrown off the bike, my left calf hit something (footpeg?) and my head and left shoulder were most likely what hit the road first. They're certainly the bits that hurt. No other injuries luckily. My leg and shoulder still ache, but it's just bruising (unless there's hidden damage, but they took x-rays and the radiographer seemed pretty sure they were clear). I was released at around midnight and spent the weekend mostly at home (we had my step-daughter staying with us, had to take her home yesterday).

No idea who hit me or what state his cars in, I've lost about half an hour of time due to the concussion. A friend actualy drove past and said there were two women tending to me as I was sitting there. I have absolutely no memory of them at all. :( (my friend couldn't stop to help as there was no room for her to park safely, and the police were already in attendance at the scene, in the UK the cops are pretty tight on keeping scenes clear of rubberneckers).

Been back to the scene and took some photos of the 10 metre skid marks, that's not a very long skid imo....

I just hope the beast isn't a write off. :(:(

Riceburner,

Is it me or you seem to be a car magnet?

Let's hope that you didn't suffer any serious injury. But non-fault? The bastard rammed into you and it's a non-fault situation?

It takes weeks to fully recover from a good concussion like that - take it easy. You'll be very sore over the next few days, and in places you didn't know you got hit. Lots of aspirin, decent sleep, and go to an apothecary or druggist & get this stuff called "TRAUMHEEL", in either gel or ointment. Put that stuff on all/any bruises/sprains as often as you can, and they will go away quite rapidly. This is homeopathic goo, and you may not find it right away, but it will make your swelling go away quickly, and releive pain.
After my incident last month, I am a believer. Glad it isn't worse.

non-fault on my part. ;)

supamotoc - the bruises don't seem to be rising that much, it's just achey. I've been using Tiger Balm to "mask" the discomfort, but it's not that effective at killing the pain really.

I'll probably just live with it until it fades away - I don't like taking painkillers that much, I prefer to know when i'm doing something that is hurting me... ;)

Riceman,

Good grief and little apples. Another close encounter with a car? Jeez Louise!

I hope your taking it easy...

Depends how you define "taking it easy". I drove roughly 600 miles yesterday to take the sproglet home (step-daughter who was staying with us over Easter).

Riceman,

Mmmmmmm. Six hundred miles, round trip? Tha's not taking it easy in my book. You deserve some down time, at least in my book.

Best to you.

Mr. Burner,

Damn, dude! Say it ain't so!

May your insurance and/or the coppers ream the blind idiot another asshole.

Scary to be concussed to the point that you lose memory. Glad it's no worse.

Rice,

Thank god your not in worse shape. That could have been much worse. Glad you were ATGATT.

Whats that about no good deed goes unpunished?

I'm unclear, do the police know who hit you? I sure hope the person stopped, otherwise thats like attempted murder in my mind, leaving a scene of a serious accident with a bike down.

Thank god for helmets, eh?

Damn Rice, sorry to hear that.
I hope you mend fast and the bike too.
Hang in there man, you deserve much better and I'm sure it's coming for you.
Keep it in perspective, you are "alive and kicking" and the K is, after all, just a machine.
Keep posting and let us know how you're doing.
Good vibes to you from "the colonies" buddy...

Cheers guys. :)

Afaik the police DO have the details, including witnesses - but I don't know if the officer in question has done his paperwork duties yet and comitted it all onto the system. He's off duty for a few days now too. Will try to chase them up later this week.

The bike gets to my dealer today at some time.... not sure what state it will be in, I just hope the recovery bloke didn't drag it up the ramp in it's side, like they did with my Rockster. :(
