I sold my heavily modified and beloved R1 "Loose Lucy" last week. Actually, my son sold it for me.

Lucy was named after Jerry Garcia's guitar:

Like the guitar, the bike was heavily modded, both from an appearance and a performance standpoint. It was a real handful on the track - I used the bike as my track bike for about 10 track days with two different organizations, and I attended the California Superbike School as a student on the bike. The red and black color scheme always got a lot of great comments at the track, as did the sweet exhaust note from the Akropovic system.

At the end of the day, it was more bike than I need right now, and the GS is so darn peppy I can use it for my stints as a track instructor for the street rider group.

I hauled Lucy back to Washington DC in a trailer last month and my son sold it for me. A shady Russian character drove down from New York and bought it, no questions asked, for cash. He didn't want a bill of sale or the title. I imagine that the bike is already on a boat for Eastern Europe and will belong to a street racer there before long, and will probably end up in a pile of twisted metal and plastic on a Budapest street within a month or so.

Such is life. So long Lucy. You were one fast bike.
